“We absolutely love this place - the speciality suckling pig is honestly one of the best things you can possibly eat. No frills, and a bit rough around the edges but all adds to the undeniable charm. Couvert includes some amazing homemade bread and the starter meat and cheese board had some amazing things on it including homemade chorizo, a warm sheep’s cheese, incredible cured ham and some spicy goats cheese. The menu is actually quite extensive and varied and I wish I had the space to eat more of it. If I could give 6 out of 5 I would, absolutely essential if you’re within 100km.“

“Fresh and authentic cuisine. After trying our luck at a restaurant around the corner and unfortunately not getting a table, we asked the owner where he would like to eat. He recommended the Reis restaurant to us - the five of us just managed to get the last table. By 8 p.m. all the tables, inside and outside, were full and the line was getting longer and longer. Rightly so: there is fresh cataplana with plenty of excellent quality shrimp and mussels, and the rice stew with swordfish and shrimp was just as good. 40€ per dish for 2 people is almost too little considering the quantity and taste. Three people could be fed per pot. Our son (9 years old) had the pork steak with fig sauce - he ate it all, the sauce was so good and the meat was tender (he pushed the figs to the side ;)) We were very satisfied - the service was very friendly and accommodating. Great evening! (Total for 5 people with starters, main course and dessert + drinks 150€)“

On the wine side - beautiful selection of mostly Portuguese wines with a few internationals thrown in, 2 prices to either drink in or take home and a good choice of chilled bottles if you’re in need of something quick. Finally, brilliant knowledgeable and caring staff - i did have a corked bottle one night and they exchanged immediately. “Absolutely deserves it status at a top restaurant. Had a taster menu and it was delicious from start to finish.

I’ve chosen not to post all courses so save the surprises but my stand outs were the squid dish which is probably in my top five dishes of all time. And also the orange tree.

Service and the experience was impeccable. Deserves the star.

Both were good, there just wasn’t any scope for it to be better (through no fault of anyone). Crab is always tasty but he got such a kick out of it that it would have been worth twice the price. “The restaurant is located outside the center of Lagos, in a quiet area. There are few seats and this helps to guarantee a quiet and relaxed atmosphere and a very attentive and quality service. The waiter who served us was very friendly and good at recommending wine. The food is exceptional. We took Muxama de atum (perfect contrast between the saltiness of the tuna and the sweetness of the onion and orange), Camarao frito con ajo (not the breaded fried food you think but probably just fried in oil, with very good prawns and a amazing sauce), patanillas de bacalao (good), polvo at low temperature with batata duce (very tender, with an excellent combination with sweet potato, perhaps the best octopus ever eaten, really delicious). Fair price for the quality offered. I would stay here again and highly recommend it.“

“We were recommended to the O Barril from our hotel and TripAdvisor but that was fully booked due to the football games playing in the square so my partner and I discovered this hidden gem.
We tend to avoid the typical tourist restaurants catered more to the English as we are on holiday and want to try new things. This place was what we were after great food and service.
My partner had Portuguese steak and potato, which she loved so I had a tiny bit to try and it was really nice. I decided to order the same meal the night after but in O Barril..this was far from as nice.
The menu is a bit pricier that some of the other places to eat but we managed to get a table outside, and we were able to watch the sunset and thought it was really worth the price. Brilliant meal to start off our holiday.“

“We stayed in Lagos for 4 days and came to Mullens twice because it was so good. We ate the Piri Piri Chicken and Beef Mozambique. Both dishes were 10/10. The chicken was tasty and came with a delicious dipping sauce, freshly fried hand cut chips and a side salad. The beef was tender and spicy. The food cannot be faulted in any way.

The atmosphere was lovely — there was live music when we visited the second time. The first time we sat outside which was great and could see our chicken being barbecued in front of us.

Best of all the service is amazing. We got to know James a bit and he made the experience even better.
