Ever since the new owners took over you just don’t feel welcome at all. On one visit I was not able to enter while his friends were. I was told it was only for known customers. No problem. Won’t be seeing me anymore. One hell of a way to do business.

Fantastic view of Mondego (south) from the glass terrace. It has a regular service of cafes that dot the towns of Portugal
Parking: In the historic center of Penacova, with some difficulty parking less than 300 meters away. But the path is well followed and is worth it for the view from the terrace, especially at dusk when the sun is over the Mondego.

Visited several times and enjoyed it on previous visits in the past. This past weekend we had friends from Scotland visiting, who wanted to watch a football game and have a few beers. Half way through the game a local entered and started complaining that we were only buying beers and he had bought fried chips and wanted the channel changed. This went on for a while with the assumption we did not understand Portuguese . The owner gave in to one local complaining. In an almost empty venue. This made us feel unwelcome. As we local residents with legitimate Portuguese heritage this treatment also puts a bitter taste in our mouths on how foreigners are treated. We won't be going back, there are many other places in Penacova that have made us feel very welcome.

This café, with friendly staff and a breathtaking view, welcomes us with friendliness and delicious convent sweets. Lorvao pastries and the old Nevadas sweets made by the nuns of the Lorvao monastery; the first ones with almonds and eggs and the second ones with very fluffy eggs and sugar called palermos are a must-try. The café has a balcony and a terrace right in the center of Penacova next to the tourist office.
