My husband and I went here on our honeymoon and had the best meal and best service. The mussel and prawn portions were excellent. Highly recommend the bacalhau a bras, also. A must visit if you’re in the area!

I’ve been to Algarve a couple of times now and am always amazed by the beauty of the country and the friendliness of the people. The one thing I’m typically not impressed by are restaurants, which often seem to cater to a taste that’s not mine. A combination of fresh ingredients, traditional but sophisticated dishes, and great service can be hard to come by, especially in combination.Good news, however: Porches Velho is the best restaurant in the area! Others have commented on how the location is charming but unsuspecting: while you don’t see much from the outside, there are very charming places inside and outside.The food is fresh, typical and traditional, never boring and always strong on quality: perfectly grilled shrimp with a super-tasty garlic and chili sauce; octopus with sweet potatoes that are too good; a lamb shank with roast aromas, rosmary, and the most tender meat. For desert, we had wonderful cakes - all combined with wine that isn’t expensive but just very, very good.I could go on when all I‘d like to do is cone back: it’s a fantastic restaurant, highly recommended!
