We visited Snack bar Silvas when staying in Portimäo as we were looking for somewhere cheap & cheerful to eat without breaking the bank. Liked the look of Silvas and the owner (we think!) was nice and welcoming. Ordered a couple of petiscos - chicken gizzards and pork cheeks. Also ordered 2 mains which were pork dishes, one of which was carne à portuguesa. Bread was given to us & we realised later it was at an extra charge. We also got some beers. The food took awhile to come as it was literally a one man show with the same person serving and cooking. We enjoyed all the dishes & the petiscos were interesting. There was quite alot of garlic with the gizzards & pork cheeks which was nice. It was also good to dip the bread in the gravy served with the gizzards. The Portuguese meat dish tasted of paprika & was served with pickled cauliflower which gave it an interesting kick. The pork steak was cooked well and both the mains were served with chips. The mains were 7.50€ each & with the petiscos, beer & bread, everything came up to less than 25€ which was great value for tasty, freshly cooked food. We liked it so much we returned the next day. Sadly the codfish & octopus salads weren't available so we ordered the pork testicles with scrambled eggs as well as pica pau. For mains, they didn't have one of the dishes we wanted to order so gave us a grilled fish & a beef steak. Again, it was a bit of a wait for the food but they were cooked fresh. The testicles had a chewy texture - like a cross between gizzards & pork. They went with the eggs. Pica-pau was similar to a main we had the day before & was served with pickled gherkins & cauliflower. The steak was served with chips and the fish with boiled potatoes & a salad on the side. Once again, the food was good with the only disappointment being a small bit of the fish which wasn't completely cooked. The mains were 8€ each & the bill came up to a little over 25€. Other than the glitch with the fish, we really enjoyed the food we had at Silvas & the unassuming vibe of the place as well as the kind & welcoming service. It's definitely recommended when in Portimão!!
Cozy snack bar with many local food options and very nice prices. If you would like to feel real Portimao’s local vibe highly recommend to visit it.
