I had a dinner with colleagues of various countries, the ambiant is cosy and the kitchen could be defined a revisited Portuguese kitchen. Good the entries with ham, cheese and own made bread, all with small mixed salads. Then a soup and a seabass with a vegebable-based cream. Good wines and an attentive service. I usually assign contextual ratings, that is comparing restaurants of the same categories, that's the reason why I don't assign 5 to this one.

This place is a bit off the beaten track (for us) both geographically (Roma) and gastronomically (Tras-os-Montes). But we were immediately won over by the combination of a luxurious setting and a family-type welcome, not to speak of the very high-class couvert including excellent ham and a cold bean and bacon offering. The recommended spider crab soup was inevitably excellent but we may have ventured a bit far from the chef's comfort zone with our mains. Nevertheless we enjoyed them and told the waiters as much. We resolved to come back and try the more traditional fare next time...until we were given the impression we would not be welcome. Our 'thank yous' were ignored, eye-contact was refused. We even regretted leaving a tip in the table such was the frosty good-bye (or rather the lack of any 'good bye' at all). We have no idea what was going on. We had not uttered a word of criticism, only praise. But it was an object lesson as to how important courtesy is to the high-end restaurant experience.

The waiter was terrible and the food definitely wasn’t up to 5 stars at all… very disappointing experience all round? we never got offered coffee or dessert and the rude waiter soon disappeared without a word ?

Where do I even begin - Riccardo our waiter is a diamond in the rough - he understood and took the time to listen and observe to make the best suggestions of food/wines that we would enjoy and man was it a 10/10! The atmosphere, food, service was just amazing - I can’t recommend this restaurant enough - just make sure to ask for Riccardo when you go :)

It's a complex menu for any taste and I dined outside this time over a negroni, breaded green beans, Santola crab soup and an Alaskan king crab green curry. Some Thursday I'll appear to try the bean feijoada transmontana. The house wine is a good Douro. When I am here, I feel they have pride in their North Country culinary culture and heritage. The chef stops by your table which is special indeed. I highly recommend this lovely restaurant.
