Beside the finest cod fish "confitado" there is a wonderfull dessert you must try called "agua doce" inspired by a the Portuguese writer Eça de Queirós.

We went to the restaurant and the prices were exaggerated, especially for the wines (example: white plateau at €18).
We ate the cod au gratin, which was good, but nothing special.
The service is mediocre and does not correspond to the good atmosphere that the room has. There should be more professionalism.

Visitamos o Solar do Douro por recomendação de uns amigos. Atendimento atencioso e simpático por parte dos dois funcionários. Local sossegado e agradável. Pedimos bochecha por recomendação, e também porque já nos tinham dito que era conhecido, e bife. Carne bastante saborosa e tenra. Foi um jantar bastante agradável. Relação qualidade/preço aceitável.

On recommendation from the Hotel Douro Palace, we went to try this restaurant. Nice place, peaceful atmosphere, friendly service. Well prepared food and reasonable prices. The "Água Queimada" dessert is a must, simply divine. I had to go back for dinner just to repeat this wonder.
