“Prepare yourself for the unfortunately usual poor acoustics of the place. But the friendliness of the staff, the food and the wine offer overcome this inconvenience. We start with an alheira, samosa and a suckling pig patty, we move on to the regional chopped, the only drawback of which is the already chronic lack of flavor and texture of the potatoes that currently proliferate in the supply circuits. Despite being homemade, it was soft and without much flavor. The wine choice fell on a Medusa Red from 2022, which deserves a score of 9 out of 10.

“Tried the Pastel de Nata many times before: in Portugal, Macau, HK, and never liked it. Until this one - it’s a different level of this pastry! Never thought it could taste like this. Go to Sta Cruz just to try it!!
The service is amazing too!! Love everything about this place, thank you!?“

“Waren hier zum Lunch. Das kleine Café versteckt sich etwas zwischen 2 Häuserfassaden. Ist aber sowas von den besuch wert! Das Essen ist frisch zubereitet, schmeckt hervorragend und ist preis leistungstechnisch vmtl das beste was man vegan/vegetarisch auf der Insel bekommen kann. Wir kommen definitiv wieder 🙂 Hatte Portugals Nationalgericht in vegan 🌱- richtig fein 😋“

Henrique has an amazing talent of providing classical Portuguese dishes with a modern twist. I have had the privilege of eating here several times and we’ve adored every meal!!! The chef Henrique is kind and generous along with all the staff. Don’t hesitate, as this place will not disappoint. I wish I could give this place 10 stars !!!!! The food is sooooo good !!! We are from Canada and can’t wait to come back and eat here again ! Thank you to everyone at Doce for giving us such a unique and welcoming experience in Santa Cruz.“

“Great place! We went to grab a quick lunch just before our flight and that was a good decision. The restaurant is at the 5-star hotel, the prices are ok, a bit more expensive then Funchal but quality is very good and service was excellent. Also there is a nice view as a bonus.“
“Super nice service! Very quaint bar/pub/restaurant. We were just sitting here with locals who were enjoying their beer after work. We had the sandwich with everything on it and it was really delicious!
It's charming and delicious, so it's worth it :)“

“We have visited this restaurant on several occasions (we liked to come at the beginning of the year and in August when we spent a few days in Porto Covo, a place we loved), I highly recommend it, for the quality, service, friendliness and price.
Caldeira de Eguias is our favorite dish, very filling and very well prepared.
See you soon, we'll be back!“

“Eating vegan is difficult in Santa Cruz and Madiera in general. It's meat and dairy heavy, but Recanto da Pitada do a vaguely named Vegan Tapas. It was surprisingly tasty, 8 pieces of pizza-like tapas with a vegan sausage and chickpea patty, topped with vegan cheese.
I'd definitely recommend this if you are after a vegan/plant-based meal in Santa Cruz. It was a large serving despite being in the starter section.
The staff were really friendly and helpful and it was reasonably priced for €20 including drinks for two people.“

“EAT HERE. This place is SO good. The arepas are delicious and huge for a good price. Best food I had while on the island, and I went ALL OVER the island. The staff are really nice! A very cute family owned restaurant. Would recommend stopping here if you are passing through or coming from the airport. You will be sad if you miss it!!!“
“We were looking for traditional food and we found it here with super straightforward and honest owner that added to the experience. We ordered scabbard fish with bananas and it was super good. Never had it this way before and I was nicely surprised with this combo. But the craziest thing was cheesecake for dessert that had no sugar and its sweetness was coming from super good cheese that owner makes by himself. I was checking other reviews from curiosity and saw some reviews stating that owner is “not nice”, for me personally his super straightforward attitude was a blessing because I hate fake people :) For me and my friends it was amazing experience and we fully recommend this place!“
“(Translated by Google) An exceptional restaurant, friendly staff and very good food.Great for tourists who come to visit Madeira Island(Original)Um restaurante excecional, funcionários simpáticos e comida muito boa.Ótimo para turistas que vem visitar a Ilha da Madeira“
“Large terrace with a fantastic view over the airport, for those who love aviation. It's a fantastic bar for lunch or dinner, or simply drinking a coffee and watching the planes arrive and depart from the airport. I recommend it without a doubt, even for those who don't like planes. It is also a good place to watch sporting events. Unfortunately it has some less positive points, sometimes it is difficult to find parking as it is a very popular place.“

“A restaurant on the first floor of the hotel we stayed at.
All menu items are reasonably priced and very delicious.
Open as a cafe in the morning. You can easily eat breakfast.
Even when I was having dinner for myself, she asked me how much I wanted and made it easier for me to eat.
Everything was delicious, but the shrimp ajillo was especially delicious. The sauteed white fish with bananas is also delicious. The garnishes are also very good with a variety of vegetables.
Since each dish has a different cooking method and seasoning, I think it's easy for Japanese people to enjoy local cuisine.“

Notably, despite the absence of a tip on the first day, we were met with the same warmth and attentiveness on our return, a testament to their unwavering commitment to hospitality.
While the staff's proficiency in English may be limited, communication and ordering pose no difficulty. It is clear that at "Taberna do petisco," the universal language of exquisite cuisine is spoken fluently, with taste as the primary medium of expression.
