The Vegan options were crossed out on the menus and the waiter said they no longer provide Vegan food. We went elsewhere Updated from previous review on 2025-03-31

Had all vegan dishes. The vegan tapas had way too much topping/spread but the taste was okay. The vegan salad seemed a bit random (mushrooms, chickpeas, vegan sausage) and the veggies were cut into big junks. The fries were soft and oily.

Plantpure

Big portions compared to funchal. Salad and fries were good. Tapas vegan was kinda gross. Kids ouldn’t finish it.

Worst chicken toast on the island... it's dry bread with dry chicken... no butter on the bread, no sauce on the chicken, not even a slice of tomato to cover it up...

We ordered a minced meat, the meat was very rare and dry accompanied with frozen fries.

Food was on the spot! We ate for €26,10 for 2 persons with a Liter of sangria and two big main dishes. Definitely worth my money 10/10 food for a very good price.

Never ever think going to this restaurant.
It is a tourist trap, with bad food.
My wife had a chichen with oily potatoes....not good.
Othe person that wa swoth ua had a tuna stake, nothing special at it.
But my Black Scabbar fish filet.....was raw. It was cooked in deep oil but just on the sides. Amd now i am really worried because 100% of this fishes have the parasite  Anisakis that, if you consume undercooked meat could be a problem.
I have tasted the raw mead at second bite, and when i tried to cut the fish trough the middle ....i could not cut it, it was raw.
I returned the plate, and i did not feel good to try anything else....and the water came at the end and told me that i do not have to pay that plate....like it was a favor.

Eating vegan is difficult in Santa Cruz and Madiera in general. It's meat and dairy heavy, but Recanto da Pitada do a vaguely named Vegan Tapas. It was surprisingly tasty, 8 pieces of pizza-like tapas with a vegan sausage and chickpea patty, topped with vegan cheese.

I'd definitely recommend this if you are after a vegan/plant-based meal in Santa Cruz. It was a large serving despite being in the starter section.

The staff were really friendly and helpful and it was reasonably priced for €20 including drinks for two people.

Local located on the street in front of the 'rock beach'. Pleasant waiters who served us a tuna steak with potatoes and salad (highly recommended) and a sirloin steak with potatoes, salad and rice (not the best steak, it was all good and at a good price). They didn't have a dessert menu and we went for less than €15 per head. Highly recommended quality/price to be before going to the airport and seeing planes land.
