We purposely traveled to Santarém to go Ó Balcão. And what a gastronomic journey. Using local products (and valuing them) is an added value. From the snaks (all), starter (creamy crab), main course (gratin and cheeks) and desserts (old-fashioned coffee and not everything is lemon) everything was good! Congratulations on the atmosphere, service, friendliness and, of course, the meal!

This restaurant is amazing! Starting with the couvert, it is simple, but very good. The little fried shrimps were a pleasant surprise. The starters were the trout with bimis, which was in the perfect point of confection, and the creamy rice with crab and crayfish, which I absolutely recommend because it was divinal! For the main courses, we ordered one of each. Mine (the siluro), unfortunately, was the one I enjoyed the least, despite being good, in particular because it had a small amount of fish (protein) compared to the others. The croaker was very good, the veal cheek was excellent and super tender, but the highlight goes to the gratin, which was absolutely incredible, I totally recommend it!
The desserts were also wonderful, particularly the one I ordered, “café das velhas”, which was amazing and I suggest you order it, to finish your meal in the best possible way!
Overall, this was a great meal and you should definitely go to Santarém and try it out!
Dietary restrictions: The restaurant doesn’t offer many alternatives for celiacs, although they can make sight changes in some dishes (like bringing some sauces on the side)

A pleasant surprise! The food is exquisite and very tasty. The mix of flavors is well achieved. The menu is not extensive and you can clearly see why: the immense care that goes into its preparation.
The service is great! First of all, very good treatment in explaining and making the choice of dishes. Then, pay close attention to serving.
Full of good details, from the cutlery to the glasses and plates, including the bread.
With wine by the glass, starter, main course and dessert it was €56 per person. Adequate price for the quality of clothing, experience and service.

The service was very good and the food was good. However, the coveted rates are too high, especially the itemized rates. This practice should not appear in high-end restaurants. In general, the restaurant's food is good and the service staff is competent!

Well-kept space with a beautiful kitchen, where the option for oxtail proved to be excellent.

I believe in signature cuisine by someone who has had proper training and who delivers flavors that are out of the ordinary. What I don't understand is why the doses are absurdly reduced. The fact that profit maximization overlaps with a total experience in which the customer enjoys but also leaves satiated and satisfied for me simply doesn't work. These new gourmet tavern concepts where there isn't even a tablecloth on the table are even more conducive to profit for those who manage the establishment.
People don't eat Michelin stars, they eat food.

Amazing experience! People are very nice and make an effort to speak English. Have the tasting menu with the wine pairing, you won’t regret it! It’s amazing to see the dedication of the chef to make such unique and local food. Being from Santarém, I learned a lot that I still didn’t know.

Very odd place. Empty at 8pm on a Saturday night, not a single table set which is highly uninviting, and we were presented with a menu printed on possibley the cheapest A4 paper available. First impressions count, which is why we decided to leave immediatley.

It was the first time we went, it won't be the last!
The place is very well decorated.
The food is excellent, due to its flavor and quality!
It can only be seen that everyone is nervous about the Star and all the other awards now received.
From what we saw and ate, the prizes are more than deserved, but you have to enjoy these victories and not suffer for them.
Keep up the great work!

Difficult to find, the neighbors recommend Taberna Quinzena and say it is cheaper, which we did.
The Michelin award is absolutely well deserved. Amazing menu, great staff and ambience! ?? Thx for having me…

This isn't just a meal; it's an experience. Taberna Ó Balcão offers outstanding food, attentive service, and an atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.We opted for the tasting menu, and it was a revelation. Each course was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The chef's passion for local ingredients and traditional recipes truly shines through. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to explain the story behind each dish, further enriching the experience. From the playful textures to the explosion of tastes, every bite was a delight. Taberna Ó Balcão is a special place that deserves to be at the top of your list when visiting Santarém but it’s also worth making the trip from Lisbon!Highly recommend!
