We were looking for a place that served Portuguese food. Spent ages looking for a place to eat and then found this little gem online. We were warmly welcomed and given a table. We got there about 9 and seemed reasonably popular with others too. They took our menu choices and we had the sparking sangria, Portuguese steak, and the house francesinha. My partner really enjoyed his steak. The sangria was lovely and an easy drink. My francesinha was just amazing! I had these in Porto a couple of years ago and even make it myself from time to time, this beats them all hands down. Couldn't manage it all but not through lack of trying as felt such a waste not finishing such a great meal. My partner had some to help me out and he agreed too that this was the best one he had. Great portion sizes and good value for money. If you want to visit a lovely restaurant with a family feel and great food than this is a must go to without a doubt!
Food was Ok nothing special. What really let this place down though was the hard sell, poor service and their expectation of a 20% tip!. As in other places in Portugal they automatically bring you out Covert which you don’t ask for which were charged at 15 euros for 2 which was not a problem as we wanted most of it anyway but beware as this may come as a shock to some people. Then they cleared both the starter and main plates away before we had even finished eating as they clearly wanted to close. Then they wanted a 20 % tip even though we had been charged for some things we had not eaten, had poor service etc and got frustrated when we had said we were only prepared to tip 10% which was more than fair considering. This is the first bad review I have felt compelled to write but the service let down what could of potentially been a nice meal as the setting is really nice and traditional!

The food was authentic and excellent. We had the bacalhau, amd the octopus with shrimp and clams. Large portions expertly prepared and delicious. The service was friendly fast and helpful. We are looking forward to returning to try more menu items.

It’s hard to explain just how good last nights meal was here. Every dish we had was superb particularly the chorizo and octopus but the pork cheeks and steak were also incredible. The staff created a fantastic atmosphere with the wonderful Carlos looking after us whilst Celia was in the kitchen (we wanted to take her with us on the rest of our holiday). A trip to Faro wouldn’t be complete without coming here, I only hope it doesn’t spoil the rest of our trip as the other meals might not live up to this.
