The waiters don't even speak Portuguese and one waitress in particular is very unpleasant! Food is expensive for so little. I advise against

Very small portions and expensive , if it had not have been for the bread basket I would have still been hungry, not good value at all

Parking: Hard to find parking anywhere in tavira as it’s a very touristy town

Terrific atmosphere, staff, and food. The deserts and cappuccinos at the end were the cherry on top of great meal

Amazing food and service. The servers were extremely friendly, and the chef brought a fish appetizer at no charge.

We tried getting a table at a different place and they were rude. Walked over to this place and they set us right away.

The oldest trick in the book and one I haven’t seen in a while.
So we were given a receipt from a previous customer with a similar amount on it. We were then told the card machine was not working but helpfully directed to a nearby cash machine!
Get it?
To go into it further, I ordered a bottle of wine but only one similar bottle was available. (There were many many bottles inside). Could it be one she brought in herself perhaps?
The time on the receipt and the itemised food which were not what we had eaten gave it away.
We never did get a receipt.

Good location. Food more or less ok. We ordered a lobster paella: the rice was not typical for paella.
It was normal rice!
The dessert was more or less. The service too. No one spoke Portuguese.
Finally, the Brazilian cook arrived and we wanted to know what type of seafood would accompany the lobster paella. Serve the food on small plates that do not allow you to prepare the lobster.
The other Gilao restaurant, which is a little further away from Caís, is much better.

Have been back many times over the years visiting Tavira. Has always been worthwhile for just a drink, for tapas, or for a more significant meal.

No Credit Cards here!! As we sat. we asked whether they accepted credit cards. and they said yes. When we asked for the check, they told ius the machine wasn't working. but. the ATM a block away could get us cash ( with an absurdly high rate!). Another retailer who is either avoiding paying Visa fees or the Taxman...
