A Mesa is one of those places where the bib gourmand label fits very well. Unpretentious, affordable, very good food, a really nice find. We picked a few a la carte dishes, all very attractively presented and with well-structured flavor- and texture profiles. Service was very attentive, and overall the place is still relaxed enough that one can either dress up or go in shorts and T-Shirt.

We found this restaurant on the Michelin guide. We knew we were trying something different and over the top, so we did. Each dish chosen was well prepared and explained in detail. Young, elegant and talented environment. It was one of the most beautiful dinners we had in Portugal.

Excellent food, maybe a bit on the expensive side. We had the bread with different vegetable spreads and olive oil, the beetroot tartare and the mushroom purée with truffle and egg as starters. Then one cod with migas and one croaker with cilantro rice for mains. The dessert, chocolate with peanuts and tequila was excellent. Everything was very tasty except for the beetroot tartare that was a bit underwhelming. Food came out a bit slow, even though we were the only customers for lunch.
Vegetarian options: They have a vegan tasting menu and also some vegetarian options à la carte, though no mains

What a nice surprise ! we had lunch for 2 during the week, opting for à la carte dishes: a starter, 2 starters and 2 main courses. From start to finish, the chef's cuisine surprised and delighted us, the cooking, the combinations: everything was really successful. The sommelier/room manager was attentive and offered us wines that suited the dishes perfectly. The value for money is great, all the staff are attentive, a very nice discovery in this pretty town.

Restaurantji Recommends
We had lunch at “A Mesa” in Tavira today. The food was outstanding, service excellent, and the intimate setting created a perfect dining atmosphere. We had gone with friends and they were extremely satisfied with the menu and the sampling of the many delicious foods, as well. We have been to several Michelin restaurants and we would rate this restaurant one of the top ones we experienced. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.Michael Kirschner

We celebrated my husband's 40th here and enjoyed the tasting menu. It was out of season so the restaurant was quiet but lucky us.. We got the undivided attention of both the Somellier and the waiter. Nothing was too much trouble. We changed a couple of things on the menu both without bother. The food was truly fantastic. Beautifully presented and totally delicious.Truly outstanding little place which deserves heaps of credit for ingenuity of menu, the flavours and the wonderful staff.Top notch. Would recommend to everyone.
Endless service outside. Without heating but with blanket. Molecular dishes with no real flavor. We spend more time listening to the composition than tasting it. Lunar prices.

Michelin in trompe-l'oeil...The chef seems to be more interested in the appearance of the dishes than the taste and it clearly works, given the number of positive reviews. The appearance is Instagrammable, the taste is not. Casual service. Really excessive prices considering the service. We are very, very far from restaurants with a Michelin star (and there are excellent ones in the Algarve).Last point: one of the guests still had a good stomach bug afterwards. Cold chain problem for seafood or hygiene (cutlery placed directly on the table, without tablecloth)?
