Visited several times during our holiday, and it was always packed with locals having breakfast and coffee. Everyone who served us was friendly and tried their best to communicate in English. We tried several types of pastries and biscuits, and they were all excellent. The Bolo Rei with dried fruit and nuts, in particular, was outstanding (so good we bought more to take home). The only small issue was getting overcharged on one visit: we got four miniature pastries and found five...
We were staying nearby during our very first visit to Portugal and discovered this nice cafe as we were walking around. We love the coffee, the pastries as well the the service. We also had lunch and the glass of wine is very generous too. Highly recommended and will definitely return when we're in Porto again.
I come here every now and then, it's a historic place, but without infamy or praise. For the coffee it's great, but for the food part it's too inconsistent, sometimes it brings out extraordinary goodies, other times (like yesterday) you ask for a cheese sandwich and the bread seems old.
