When was the last time you went to a restaurant and had the chance to taste wine before ordering, where in a meeting with the owner you had to discuss recipes, wines and olive oils? Where was the care taken to treat you as more than just customers?
It all started with a web search and comments that Taverna dos Conjurados had closed because they "had retired". I went looking for the space and found the owner doing some exterior renovations and informing me that they were only open on weekends and operated by appointment. I made an appointment for the following night (Friday).
The Renaissance fair took away our appetite, but we ordered a salad as a starter.
This was followed by sirloin steaks with apple puree and wild rice and duck magret where I swapped the fried potatoes for rice. The flavors matched perfectly and the wine complemented it. Curiosity for the description of Manjar das Chagas made us order dessert. We also ordered cream cheese sweets....
It was a very well spent dinner where the combination of flavors was perfect.
From us, thank you very much.

Lopen.

Restaurant 10. All the food we ordered was very good and with a very homemade touch. The treatment from the owner was unbeatable, making us feel at home, and explaining the origin of all the food. Totally recommended.

After a wonderful weekend having lunch and dinner in great restaurants in Alentejo, we were struck by this one that we mistakenly went for based on the score seen here... Anyway, friendliness and politeness is five stars!! But no one goes to a restaurant just for that!! It takes three hours to have lunch at this place!! The menu isn't very vast, but even so it didn't have more than 50% of what was there... There wasn't a single game dish, there wasn't a single fish dish, we ordered a pork chop for a child and it came from cow because they didn't have pork steaks, anyway... It took 1h15 for the starters to come to the table (a mix of quality chorizo and a banal dry cheese with a mini-cup of honey and almonds that anyone can prepare at home. ..) Then we waited another 1h20 for the main dishes to arrive (two tasty codfish au gratin like the spiritual type, which you can eat in any pastry shop in Lisbon, and a Portuguese pork and another with crumbs that didn't taste like anything, and the meat tasted like pasta of pepper, in addition to the child's (normal) bitoque). In short, very little quality in the preparation of the dishes, the wine has three types, I tried two, both with quality, an exhausting eternity in getting the food to the table, it is absolutely super slow, the menu is short and full of things that are not there... It left the mouth bitter because it was the last meal in Alentejo, at this very poor level... Extraordinarily friendly, but zero efficiency! And if the food were wonderful, you'd even forget the rest, but it's not, very, very far from that!!!
