We stopped in for an early breakfast. The Benedicts were pretty good—though I wasn’t sure if the cheese used was Kraft singles. Service during the meal was honestly great. Our server was kind, attentive, and overall really lovely.
The issue came at the very end. Their payment machine didn’t show tip percentages, so I just entered an amount manually. I didn’t see the full bill at the time, but later realized it was around $40. I always tip 15–18%, and after getting to the car and doing the math (including both taxes), I saw that what I left was actually a fair tip.
But as we were leaving, I was chased down and asked why I “tipped so low” and if the service was bad. I was caught off guard, especially because I genuinely thought she did a great job. If I’d had cash on me, I probably would’ve even added another $5. It wasn’t about the tip—it was the way she handled it that felt totally unprofessional and has never happened to me in my life.
There was a whole discussion recently in the Spotted LaSalle Facebook group, where a lot of seniors were openly saying they don’t tip at all. I can only imagine how this would’ve gone if someone like that had come in. Would she have chased them out too, asking what she did wrong? ( I think tipping is super important)
It’s a shame, because I would’ve gladly returned. But after being made to feel guilty over something that didn’t even warrant it, I don’t think I will.

Don’t know what happened to this place but the quality has gone WAY DOWN. Used to love this place. Now the food is terrible. I’m sorry but whoever was in the kitchen this morning should maybe not be in the kitchen. Burn toast. Barely cooked eggs. Kitchen never listens to what the order is supposed to be. Ridiculous

I really do like this place. We come almost weekly. The last couple months the cooks haven't been great, many things are undercooked just a little like the potatos and eggs. The bacon last time was severely OVERcooked. Sometimes the staff seems really stressed so we don't say anything. The staff is pretty friendly and the food is still good, but it's a little disappointing makes us come less especially since it's a bit expensive these days. Also we've been going there over a year and only once did a young server tell us there is a loyalty card. And we still don't have one.

Very welcoming place but quite ordinary in terms of decor, even if it was busy the ambient noise level was respectable.
Service is fast and courteous, the plates are generous but no wow effect, it is lunch after all.
