We were able to get a last minute dinner reservation for 7 tonight! Our waiter was great (Charles), However it took FOREVER to get served. I ordered frog legs with fries and when it was served it was lukewarm and the fries were soggy and greasy. Someone's snails were served without the shells. My creme brûlée was fabulous. I'm not sure what was going on but it's clear they weren't on top of their game tonight.
I had French onion soup to start, it wasn’t like any French onion soup I’d ever had. Onions not caramelised, loads of cheese loaded throughout the soup with small pieces of bread loaded into the soup. Then had an oily bland pesto pasta. My partner ordered the shrimp dish. It had 6 small shrimp over over cooked but somehow still soggy chips. Reheated left overs? All in all a dreadful meal. I can only assume the head chef was sick or had walked out that afternoon The only high point was our waiter was delightful, pleasant and efficient
Wonderful dining experience in the romantic setting of Old Town Quebec. Our waiter was very, very good. He madecexcellent suggestions and brought out special condiments for my wife's charcuterie which were available in a the store next door. We made sure to stop there as well.
Great brunch. Good friendly service. Nice decor. Large portions and good coffee. Lots of restaurants to choose from in the area but you can’t go wrong choosing this one.
We read so many positive reviews so decided to book a table for 4 for dinner. It took a while for a server to come to our table. 2 of us ordered Coquille St Jacques as an appetiser. One was just about edible and the other arrived in a thick gloopy floury "sauce". It was not edible. When the server took away the full plate there were no questions asked as to why it was going back not eaten. All of our main courses were not great. We all agreed it was a total waste of money and we all agreed we would not go back. The only good thing was we ordered a couple of bottles of nice red wine, however, for some reason the gentleman would only pour wine for the 2 men at the table. Each time he left my husband would fill up my glass! Very disappointing, and very expensive. Save your money and eat elsewhere!
Our at Chez Jules was a really enjyable experience. Amelie served us and she was friendly, attentive and had a warm personality. We enjoyed the escargot and beef Bourgionen - all of which was delicious. We felt very comfortable in the restautant's ambience.
Not my first but everything is still great at this restaurant: the location - across the street from the Chateau Frontenac hotel, the welcoming and professional staff, the great food. We had snails and a Coquille St-Jacques to start the meal, which were both perfect - very tender snails with garlic butter for one, perfectly cooked scallops on a bed of leek and shrimps sauce for the other, while of course exchanging a little portion to taste. The typical "brasserie française" choices at their best. As a main course, the "mushroom raviolis" were absolutely exceptional with the truffle sauce while the beef cheek bourguignon was amazing, melting on our tongue... sooooo good.!!! And of course, no escape, you must keep in mind that dessert follows the main course. There again, the "Ile flottante" and the "Vanilla Crème brulée" were so good and tasty The staff was very efficient and professional while friendly - thank you Charles and your colleagues. We will certainly return again to this finest restaurant.
The only reason I've given two stars instead of one star is that our server was very nice. But the food was really very bad. I ordered a steak frites, medium rare. The extremely thin steak was medium, not medium rare and the frites were soggy and limp. The side salad had clearly been dressed many hours earlier and was also limp. I was really nasty. Meanwhile, the plate had been smeared with a flavourless substance that seemed to include sesame seeds. It had been placed on the plate long enough ago that it was stuck there. The peppercorn sauce was edible but flavourless, and didn't make up for the rest. My husband had the duck special and the presentation and quality were similar to mine. It looked as though the meal had been plated the day before and stuck into the microwave before coming to our table. My cocktail, a French 75 (something I've enjoyed at many restaurants and made myself many times) was the worst I'd ever had. It contained far too much lemon and had no balancing sweetness, which is critical to a correct French 75. I was astounded at the poor quality. We paid close to $40 for each of these dishes. Horrendous.
Ordered 2 Entrees-Coquille St Jacques and a green salad. I’ve eaten and cooked this dish for the past 50 years. A shallow dish filled with a heavy/thick unseasoned béchamel? sauce with leeks and some small shrimp in it, baked and then topped with a lone poorly seared scallop would horrify St John. It was a pathetic attempt on a French classic. The green salad, a week old packet of mixed leaves were browned at the ends, and limp. Great 3 slices of of cucumber and the radish was faultless. The dressing was the highlight of the meal. Basic bottled oil and vinegar but with some Parmesan (I think) which put some flavour into the meal. There is no excuse for delivering this rubbish to willing tourists. For C$60 we deserve better.
We were excited about this place and seemed to be a great option to have lunch in one of the two days we decided to spend in Quebec. We reserved online with 2 weeks in advance in an available slot in the app (13:30, Wednesday Aug 2nd) and on Tuesday 1st we called the restaurant to move the reservation to Thursday, same hour, due to a logistics issue. The man in charge gently confirmed us by phone for that new date / time, so we planned our whole rainy day around that reservation. Long story short, we were not accepted to have lunch there, although we presented ourselves at 13:20. Reason? In the waiter in charge words: things change and they were closing earlier. What do they accept reservations then? And of course they ask for your credit card to confirm. I just hope I don’t get charged! - we’ll never come back. Very poor customer management. Ate at Alphonse just in the corner and was very good.

Food was overall mediocre. Bavette de boeuf was the best entree, while the butter noodles were borderline inedible because they didn’t actually add any butter.
The good: The outdoor seating is quaint, cozy and in a fun and vibrant area. Our server, who was severely overworked, was very friendly and attentive, despite being the only one on the patio. The bad: The food was quite terrible. It was edible but probably one of the worst meals we have ever had. The salmon was bland, dry and burnt on top. The green beans were canned or water-logged - either way, they were really bad. My husband had the beef and it was slightly better than the salmon but not worth the price. The presentation was reminiscent of hospital food. I am giving this a 3 star for the efforts of our server who really tried his best to make up for having way too much on his plate. The food is a 1 star.
Located in a busy tourist area and we, in fact, had food for tourists. Sat outside and fortunate that we had an early reservation because the tables are jammed together. Mediocre at best food-frog legs and beef bourguignon. Server was efficient and pleasant. Would not recommend this restaurant which was overpriced and lacking in quality.
Since we stayed at the inn in this building, we ate here for a few breakfasts. Service was cordial; food was excellent. We tried a few dishes: the salmon bagel, crepes, full English. Nice roomy dining area plus seating outdoors.
If I could give this a 0, I would. Shame on my wife and I for sticking this one out, as we should have left immediately - the writing was on the wall from the get go. We were seated quickly by a very nice and courteous staff member, which was great. However, we waited over 10 minutes from that point to get our menus, after which we waited another 10-12 minutes or so prior to ordering. After ordering, we waited another 10-12 minutes for the staff to bring us our wine. We ordered Steak + Frites (I believe it is called something else on the menu). The steak was paper thin (and thus overcooked), and the fries were cool, soggy and floppy. Not ideal. Again, we decided to wait to cast judgement and went about eating our meals. We didn't see our waiter for another 10 minutes, despite him working 2 other tables right next to us. We decided to stop eating well in advance of our next interaction with our waiter. When we asked us how our meal went/was going, we responded with 'not well', he asked what he could do. Ultimately, he took one entree off the bill, which we were thankful for. Unfortunately, bad food and poor service isn't a great combination. Will not return. I would encourage others to look elsewhere.
