Disappointing experience at the Pont-Rouge Steak House

We had booked four days in advance, specifying that it was a birthday and requesting that a small cake with a candle be brought at the end of the meal. We were assured by telephone that this would be done.

When we arrived, a sign indicated to wait to be assigned a place. After several minutes without any employee coming to see us, I had to call a hostess myself. This first impression was not ideal.

The service was spotty afterward. Order taking went well, and drinks were served quickly. However, our starter (a beef tartare to share) never arrived before the main meal. When the error was pointed out, we were eventually brought the tartare, but as we had already started our main course, we didn't want any more. The waitress did well not to charge us for it, but the mistake could have been avoided.

In terms of food, the dishes were OK, without being exceptional, which pushes me to give 3 stars for the quality of the meals. The atmosphere of the restaurant, for its part, is rather disappointing: the red and black banquettes give a steakhouse appearance, but the overly bright lighting breaks the cozy atmosphere that one might expect from such an establishment. It feels more like a steakhouse snackbar than an upscale steakhouse.

Finally, the most regrettable point: the birthday was never celebrated, despite our request confirmed when booking. This is a big disappointment for us.

Overall, my experience did not live up to my expectations.

What a disappointment... A restaurant that wants to play in the big leagues but is unable to. Serving beautiful pieces of meat is unfortunately not enough. It should also be served hot, cooked as requested, with good accompaniments, good service and in an atmosphere worthy of the price…

To be fair I'll start with the positives:
- High quality and very tender pieces of meat.
- Very friendly and attentive waitress.

But here it is:
- Everything was lukewarm or cold. We ordered a tasting platter to treat ourselves, it was my party! A cold wooden board of super nice pieces of warm meat was served to us. Very nice presentation and the first 2-3 bites were delicious and juicy but after 5 minutes it was already a waste because it was too cold. When I received the board I immediately felt that it would be cold quickly and I asked if they didn't have a large hot stone or another solution and I was told no, that it was the first time they had such a request… Seriously, I'm the first to like eating hot??? Suggestion: Serve on a hot board/stone or offer in several courses.
- Potatoes crushed into powders that tasted like pablum. Honestly disgusting! Have some fries!!! Haha!
- Meats more cooked than requested.
- Accompanied by overcooked shrimp with a very ordinary taste.
- Mushrooms sautéed in oil which didn't taste much.
- I asked for mayonnaise for my fries. They brought me a bottle of Heinz mayonnaise as if we were at Normandin!! Haha, awesome…
- The waitress was alone, a great person but who had too much on her shoulders and we always had to make our requests 2-3 times to get them.
- Cosmopolitan (sweet drink) served with salt around the edge of the glass. My girlfriend's face when she tasted it! Haha, it was almost worth the $400 bill! At least they did it again.
- The water tastes like the Pont-Rouge aqueduct... I love Pont-Rouge, I lived there for a long time but...
- Desired wine found on the menu, not available.
- Very ordinary decor reminiscent of cheap all-inclusive restaurants in the south.
-No music.

Thinking about all the praise I had heard about this restaurant, I told myself that perhaps my expectations were too high, but seeing the bill put my feet back on the ground.

I like steakhouses but at this price, unfortunately it’s not worth the “cost” of giving it a second chance.

So if like me you want to spoil yourself $$$, go elsewhere! Sorry!

When you feel like eating good meat, because you don't do any of that at home, then you go to a good steakhouse. And it was with my lover that we discovered the one in Pont Rouge.
There is a bar where you can eat more simply or the restaurant section with everything. There is a small salad bar with a nice variety of very fresh vegetables to whet your appetite. Then, our kind waitress Karine was patient with us when choosing our piece of meat wisely.
For my part, it was a disaster. Sometimes it feels good to eat a good steak! The fries are delicious by the way. My boyfriend chose a piece aged for 45 days! Delicious but a little too tight. He ended up with his teeth at the end to get the little remains of meat, it was funny to see him!

Kid-friendliness: We saw 2 children. It's correct they weren't noisy.

I had the ribs and they were excellent. My girlfriend had the steak which i tried and it was great. The service from our waitress ana was like none other, smiling, polite, friendly and very professional. The owner also walks around and makes sure all the clients are good throughout the night, not many owners do this..so this is a huge plus in my book. Smaller place, very nicely decorated. It is family runned and they do an great job.
I would highly recommend this restaurant for people to try in the quebec city area !

Very noisy as a restaurant, 4 bottles on the wine list not available. The steak is ok but nothing more...and the meat is too salty as well as the pepper sauce, even if we like it salty

A good steak house,
Individual meal or formula to share.
We had a cowboy steak for two people in the table d'hôte formula, so two starters, the main meal plus the choice of side dishes and two desserts.
In addition to the free, unlimited salad bar, we drove out of the restaurant!
Everything was good, the desserts could have been better (strawberry tiramisu, they tasted a bit like the fridge and the biscuits had a strange texture) but that didn't spoil the experience.

In addition, the service was impeccable! Karine was very helpful, professional and kind.

Considering everything that was served to us for the price, I would say that it was a very fair price.
