A gem! A real culinary gem. The shrimp ojja was out of this world. Highly recommend a visit to this charming family kitchen.

Stopped in for a light meal and it was a lovely time. Their mint tea is loose leaf which was new/strange *to me*, but then I got over it 🤷🏼‍♂️🙂.

Came to Quebec City a few months back for a trip with friends and easily one of, if not the best meal I had in the city. The restaurant interior was very nice was decorated with art, carvings, and motifs from Tunisia and North Africa. Community seemed tight-knit between the owners and regular customers and I really respected the hospitality from the restaurant managers. Our group even got a complementary salad (not sure if this was because our group was ~7 though). I ordered the Couscous Tunisien which was around 23 CAD, the dish had an amazing flavor with hearty chunks of lamb and potatoes to combo the couscous. Portion size was definitely worth the price—or even more—and the manager even offered to wrap our seconds with plastic wrap on an aluminum tin so we could take some back to the hotel. Overall, I recommend Carthage Express to anyone visiting Quebec City.

Highly recommend! Great food for an affordable price. We went here on our last night in Quebec and it was probably my favorite restaurant of the entire visit, which is saying a lot since Quebec has a lot of amazing restaurants. We each the special which comprised of a pita sandwich with our choice of protein, a salad, coleslaw, potato wedges, and a drink, all for under $15 CAD. In addition, the staff were very friendly and the service was quick. It’s a little out of the way but definitely worth the effort to seek it out.

Great service, and the food has robust variety of spices in every dish! Grateful to stumble across Carthage Express. The only regret is finding it on the last day of our visit.

had an amazing experience at this Tunisian restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, especially the couscous — it was simply perfect. The service was outstanding, and the staff made us feel very welcome. The atmosphere is lovely, warm, and family-friendly, which made the whole evening even better. I highly recommend it and will definitely be coming back!

The food was absolutely delicious full of flavour and really well done both the combo and the Ojja but I couldn’t help noticing the server he was doing everything on his own taking orders handling everyone’s extra needs going to the kitchen to prepare the food, bringing it back to the tables, cleaning up afterwards, and still trying to keep a smile on his face the whole time. Honestly, it’s way too much for one person if the restaurant gets busy, they really need to hire more staff to help

Beautiful restaurant with a charming Arabic atmosphere. The prices are reasonable and the food is very tasty! I suspect the kitchen forgot to add oil/vinegar/lemon to the Tunisian salad, would highly recommend for the full flavor!

A Hidden Gem in Quebec City: Carthage Express Delivers a Terrific Family Meal!
We recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at Carthage Express, a charming Tunisian restaurant tucked away at 20 Côte du Palais in the heart of Old Quebec City, and it was nothing short of spectacular! This cozy eatery is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic, flavorful cuisine served with genuine warmth and hospitality.
From the moment we walked in, the owner greeted us with an enormous smile and a welcoming vibe that instantly made our family of four feel at home. The atmosphere is a delightful blend of cozy and stylish, with authentic Tunisian decor that transports you straight to the heart of North Africa. The vibrant colors and thoughtful touches in the design added a special charm to our dining experience.
The food? Simply phenomenal! Every dish was a burst of Tunisian flavor, prepared with love and care. We opted for the Trio Shish Taouk, and oh my gosh, it was a highlight of our trip! The chicken was perfectly seasoned, tender, and juicy, paired with wonderfully crispy, flavorful potatoes and fresh salads that added a delightful crunch. The portions were generous, and the prices—around $12–13 CAD per person—felt like a steal for such high-quality, homemade fare. The couscous was another standout, spiced to perfection and served with tender meats and vegetables that left us all raving. We also couldn’t resist the mint tea, which was refreshing and the perfect complement to our meal.
What truly sets Carthage Express apart is the exceptional service. The owner’s kindness and attentiveness made us feel like royalty. Despite the restaurant being busy, they took the time to offer personalized recommendations and ensure every detail of our meal was perfect. It’s clear that this is a family-run gem where passion for Tunisian cuisine and customer satisfaction shine through.
For a family looking for a delicious, affordable, and heartwarming dining experience, Carthage Express is an absolute must-visit in Quebec City. We’re already looking forward to our next trip back to savor more of their incredible dishes—don’t miss the merguez or the homemade Tunisian pastries! Thank you to the wonderful team at Carthage Express for making our family meal unforgettable. Five stars all the way
