ce soir le 1 février 2025 je suis aller manger au restaurant le charbon j'ai été reçu comme un roi avec les serveurs Joe et Sophie et du propriétaire Richard. la nourriture était excellente très délicieux de qualité je suis réparti très heureux. je recommande as tous ce très bon restaurant. ces plus que un restaurant ces une familles.

On December 27, 2024 at 8:57 p.m., at the Charbon Steakhouse restaurant in Old Quebec…

What was supposed to be a celebration of our 7th anniversary quickly turned into a situation I wouldn't wish on anyone.

While she was eating, my girlfriend thought she bit into a piece of steak that was a bit tough. She bit on it several times before removing it from her mouth with her fingers without knowing what it was. She looked at the piece in her hand, realized it was a HUGE piece of BROKEN GLASS, then looked at me and said, “Oh my God, I just bit some glass.” » She then placed it in a small mayonnaise container which remained on the table.

Luckily, her Invisaligns acted as a sort of mouthguard, preventing her from chipping a tooth or swallowing the piece of glass. However, the glass damaged her Invisalign.

We had great seats, a wonderful waitress and a nice atmosphere. We started with starters, drank only water, and ordered steak dishes. The incident happened while we were still eating. Inside, I was furious, but I kept calm, remained polite and avoided making a scene so as not to disturb the other customers.

I got up and found the hostess, who sent for our waitress. We showed her the piece of glass, and she showed real concern and a bit of panic. She left and came back with another woman, who turned out to be the manager.

However, the manager did NOT bother to introduce herself, show any concern, or even acknowledge the seriousness of the situation for my girlfriend. Instead, she immediately fell into denial, refusing to admit that it was glass. (It was!!!) She suggested that "maybe it was debris from cracks in the mayonnaise dispenser, which may not have been cleaned properly."

That's all she said. No apology, no acknowledgment of the seriousness of the incident. Then she left...and never came back.

I later learned that the manager's name was Nadine. (We also know the name of the waitress, but we'll keep that to ourselves in this post.)

The waitress came back with a small container of mayonnaise. At that point, I knew what to expect for the rest of the evening.

Our meals were completely ruined—we obviously didn’t continue. Yet they still wanted us to pay the entire bill. This led to a negotiation between me and the waitress.

To give you some context, this was our first visit to this restaurant. We love steak, it's our favorite dish, and we wanted to spend a pleasant evening enjoying a good meal without having to cook or prepare anything. Price was not an issue; we just wanted to have a great experience.

Unfortunately, this experience was far from that. Although we like to share our positive experiences, this time we felt it was necessary to share what happened. People must be held accountable.

The manager? Absolutely horrible.

We are grateful that my girlfriend is okay—that she didn't swallow the drink, cut her mouth, or knock out a tooth. But we are sad, frustrated and disappointed.

We will obviously never set foot there again.

Le 27 décembre 2024 à 20h57, au restaurant Charbon Steakhouse dans le Vieux-Québec… Ce qui devait être une célébration de nos 7 ans s’est rapidement transformé en une situation que je ne souhaiterais à personne. Pendant qu’elle mangeait, ma copine pensait avoir croqué dans un morceau de steak un peu dur. Elle a mordu dessus plusieurs fois avant de le retirer de sa bouche avec ses doigts sans savoir c’était quoi. Elle a examiné le morceau dans sa main, réalisé que c’était un ÉNORME morceau de VERRE CASSÉ, puis m’a regardé et a dit : « Oh mon Dieu, je viens de croquer de la vitre. » Elle l’a ensuite déposé dans un petit contenant à mayonnaise qui restait sur la table. Heureusement, ses Invisalign ont agi comme une sorte de protège-dents, évitant qu’elle ne s’écaille une dent ou qu’elle n’avale le morceau de verre. Toutefois, le verre a endommagé ses Invisalign. Nous avions de belles places, une serveuse formidable et une ambiance agréable. Nous avions commencé avec des entrées, bu uniquement de l’eau, et commandé des plats de steak. L’incident s’est produit alors que nous étions encore en train de manger. Intérieurement, j’étais furieux, mais j’ai gardé mon calme, suis resté poli et j’ai évité de faire une scène pour ne pas perturber les autres clients. Je me suis levé et j’ai trouvé l’hôtesse, qui a fait venir notre serveuse. Nous lui avons montré le morceau de verre, et elle a manifesté une réelle inquiétude et un peu de panique. Elle est partie et est revenue avec une autre femme, qui s’est avérée être la gérante. Cependant, la gérante n’a PAS pris la peine de se présenter, de montrer une quelconque inquiétude, ni même de reconnaître la gravité de la situation pour ma copine. Au lieu de cela, elle est immédiatement tombée dans le déni, refusant d’admettre qu’il s’agissait de verre. (C’en était!!!) Elle a suggéré que « c’était peut-être des débris provenant de fissures dans le distributeur de mayonnaise, qui n’aurait pas été correctement nettoyé ». C’est tout ce qu’elle a dit. Aucune excuse, aucune reconnaissance de la gravité de l’incident. Puis, elle est partie… et n’est jamais revenue. J’ai appris plus tard que la gérante s’appelait Nadine. (Nous connaissons également le nom de la serveuse, mais nous le garderons pour nous dans ce post.) La serveuse est revenue avec un petit contenant de mayonnaise. À ce moment-là, j’ai compris à quoi m’attendre pour le reste de la soirée. Nos repas étaient complètement gâchés—nous n’avons évidemment pas continué. Pourtant, ils voulaient toujours nous faire payer l’intégralité de la facture. Cela a mené à une négociation entre moi et la serveuse. Pour vous donner un peu de contexte, c’était notre première visite à ce restaurant. Nous aimons le steak, c’est notre plat préféré, et nous voulions passer une soirée agréable en dégustant un bon repas sans avoir à cuisiner ou préparer quoi que ce soit. Le prix n’était pas un problème; nous voulions juste vivre une belle expérience. Malheureusement, cette expérience était loin de cela. Même si nous aimons partager nos expériences positives, cette fois-ci, il nous semblait nécessaire de raconter ce qui s’est passé. Les gens doivent être tenus responsables. La gérante? Absolument horrible. Nous sommes reconnaissants que ma copine aille bien—qu’elle n’ait pas avalé le verre, qu’elle ne se soit pas coupé la bouche, ni cassé une dent. Mais nous sommes tristes, frustrés et déçus. Nous ne remettrons évidemment jamais les pieds là-bas.

THE restaurant to visit for a complete and oh so satisfying experience for the taste buds and the belly! From our arrival to departure, the know-how, the flawless professionalism, the kindness and the accuracy of the suggestions mean that I am already thinking of making a return trip to Quebec to return there. Thanks to the team for the perfect experience!

Absolutely excellent. Be prepared to be there for a little while, it’s not a rushed process. The steaks were superb all around, the sides just the same. Fantastic wine selection, upscale spot to enjoy one of the best of Quebec City’s dining options. 100%.

Been there on a Thursday evening for two. The atmosphere is very intimate, it's just lit enough to have a nice atmosphere. Very good service. Good parmesan fondue. The 16oz New York steak is simply delicious, mixed with pepper and brandy sauce. Small downside for the dauphinoise potato gratin which was a little oily. Excellent crème brûlée, as well as the Pineapple Gin cocktail. A 2nd visit will have to be necessary 🥩

From the welcome to the desert, I loved this restaurant. A magnificent piece of meat cooked according to my request with a very good choice of wine.

Overrated
$500 worth of meat on the table, no follow-up on cooking, no pepper offered, meals brought without even naming the dishes.
No spices or butter on the potatoes or vegetables.
Avoid!!

Very good service. Everything was good. Good piece of meat cooked over charcoal. All the accompaniments are excellent and what about the beef tartare. Never seen before, truly delicious.
