As a tourist, this is the perfect reprieve from the hoards. Feels like the neighborhood pub I spent all day looking for. No frills; sit at the bar, grab a beer, pay cash.

Same as some other reviewers experienced. Went in and ordered two beers at the bar. Paid and were questioned why we did not tip. I am not greedy or anything, but I litterally ordered a glass of beer at the bar, honestly what is there to tip? Perhaps I am from a different culture but it felt a bit weird and hostile to be put in place this way.

Maxim at Fou-Bar is an absolute delight. We had a beautiful evening connecting with the locals and tapping in to a bit of joie de vivre. They even had university students fundraising through a clothing drive in the bar, a true feeling of community.

Abusive to tourists, we went to check out the Jazz band, and since we sat, they told us that we have to put at least $15 each into the hat for the band, when we asked for the check, they want to charge us again for the band (we gave our donation), we noticed not everyone was making the donation to the band, Then, the sever requested a minimum of 15% tip, according to her, is the law in Québec, BS.
By the way, the jazz band was amazing. They were great and very enjoyable music.
The atmosphere was good. Unfortunately, the service sucks. Be careful for what you get cherge.

Flee if you are tourists! Very poor reception and reflection if we do not leave at least 15% of services. I would have paid more but seeing how we were received because I only had a coke, a beer and nothing for my daughter... No thank you. Fortunately not all street traders are like that.
We were made to feel when paying that the tip (~15%) was apparently not enough, since the waitress left without a word (no thank you/goodbye) even though she had been very joking up until then... The drinks were okay.
