The reviews certainly weren't lying when they said this is one of the best Japanese restaurants around.

Coming from Toronto where I've had many great Japanese meals, I wasn't sure where this restaurant would rank. After dining there, it's definitely one of the top Japanese restaurants I've been to in Canada! The highlights for us were the edamame, sashimi, and all of the skewers (standout was the pork belly, but the others were all amazing as well). For us personally, the curry karaage and rice bowls were not as impressive, though still great. If I had the chance to come back, I'd treat this as purely an appetizer and yakitori restaurant, because those aspects were extremely delicious and reasonably priced.

Service was also great and attentive, which is important in a place where you will (likely) be ordering multiple times due to the small size of the tables. Hopefully we have the opportunity to try their ramen restaurant next time!

Outstanding service, menu, cocktails, design. We were thrilled to find this restaurant in Quebec City. We love Japanese food and Hono Izakaya did not disappoint. Our waiter, Alex, was attentive, knowledgeable, friendly, and calm despite the large number of people he was serving. The cocktails were creative and delicious, the yakitori were perfectly cooked and delicious, especially the duck heart. Their take on the classic agedashi is light and flavorful, with a darker, umami-full dashi. We hope to return soon!

Food was great though a little on the smaller size as far as portions. Atmosphere was nice but soooo loud we could not really have a conversation.

Small and cozy restaurant. Food is excellent. Pork belly, fried chicken, salmon yakitori were stand outs, everything was good. Great friendly service. Pricing is reasonable . Highly recommend.

I went twice during my stay in Quebec City. Food is a bit overrated but good overall.

Really delicious crispy tofu curry! As a vegetarian it’s hard to find restaurants that season tofu well, it’s usually a plain block of tofu cut up and thrown into some sauce. But this tofu was perfectly seasoned and very crispy! The curry sauce was pretty standard Japanese curry sauce but still yummy. Service was good and the vibe of the restaurant is modern and cool. Someone else in our party also raved about the chicken karaage curry!

Absolutely Amazing dining experience. The welcome at the front door by the General Manager is so welcoming and inviting. I ate at the bar and loved the chic ambiance. Great music selection.
The service from the entire team was 5 star. Especially Valerie, Priscilla and Simon-Pierre who made the night extra enjoyable with their personalized service. Food was incredible, the pork flanc you have to order. It was Tender and juicy. Definitely a must try in Quebec !! Thank you Hono Izakaya!

Authentic Japanese restaurant, where you mostly share small platters. Staff were incredibly supportive and patient with us, explaining everything in great detail.
The lovely lady that was our waitress was actually on her first shift, and helped us to understand how things were done there, made recommendations on what we might like to try. Honestly, the only complaint I might make is actually about ourselves being so picky eaters.
We tried the Sake floats, which was delicious. And the waiter that prepared them explained in detail which of each sake was what type, what type of flavour to expect, and followed up with us later on which ones we liked best (the cloudy Sake being the common favourite between us).

I want to begin by thanking the Izakaya staff for being so flexible in accommodating so many changes in our reservation. We contacted them by email and they got back to us quickly. They were gracious and helpful each time we had to make changes.

The food was excellent. The wait staff explained the premise of the restaurant is to share many plates across various areas of the menu. All the dishes we ordered were excellent. The tofu curry was outstanding, the sauce was gentle and elegant. The dumplings were amazing, we split our order and got half vegetable and half pork. The sauces the came with were perfect for the fillings.
The service was attentive even though the restaurant was busy.

Overall, I would recommend the restaurant highly

Avoid this place! This place either discriminates or just has terrible wait staff.

Normally I don't care about the service if the food is good. In this case the service was so truly awful that it completely ruined the experience. Our waiter was inattentive and we waited a very long time to order and for the food to arrive. Even getting the bill took nearly 20 minutes and we had to ask multiple waiters before one person brought it to us.
