Overall, everything about this place screams 'five-star restaurant.' However, I wonder if we were treated differently because we were younger than the regulars. While our waiter and waitress were truly great, the rest of the staff fell short.
There was almost no eye contact, no smiles, and no greetings. We had to refill our own wine glasses and waited so long for the check that we eventually had to stand up and go to the front desk. We even ended up grabbing our own coats from the coat check because the wait was so long. I am 100% sure the servers were doing their absolute best given how busy it was, but it seemed like other staff members weren't doing much to help. For such a high-end establishment, we expected to be treated as such.

Went to Le Saint-Amour in December and unfortunately won’t be going back. We were placed in a smaller room to the right of when you walk into the restaurant instead of the main area. However, we weren’t the only ones placed there so we decided not to say anything.
Ultimately chose to splurge and get the tasting menu and a bottle of wine but it really wasn’t worth it. I think a lot of creativity went into justifying how there are 7 courses (which include a tiny to-go box of cookies at the end), but the worst part was the service. By 9/9:30 pm on a Saturday night, after we paid and still had wine left, we were the only ones left in this room and our waiter disappeared after collecting the bill. The only staff we saw were the busboys peeking in to see if we were still there. I had to get up twice and go to the coat check for a water refill. However, the main part of the restaurant still had customers and staff working as well. The service during the meal wasn’t great either, considering we opted for a multi-course menu.
All in all, I would not recommend going to this restaurant, but if you decide to go do not get the tasting menu and do not let yourself be seated outside the main area. I was surprised this restaurant wasn’t anywhere in the Michelin guide, but after this experience I can understand.

It’s a 5-star, especially if you go in expecting proper robust traditional French cuisine. It’s not nouvelle by any means. The squab was bold and delicious. The cod was nuanced and clever. The foie gras “experience” was just that. The recommended sauterne was a perfect pairing, and my Pessac-Léognan 2020 from Les Hauts de Smith for the squab leapt out at you! The chocolate tart dessert was perfect. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable and attentive without being cloying or stiff. The atmosphere is of course perfectly on-theme. Our local friend “warned” us that it will be rich and saucy. That was not criticism but compliment. One must go knowing this.

My husband and I stayed in Quebec City for a couple of days and chose this restaurant based on the excellent Google reviews. We made a reservation for 9 p.m., one day in advance. We were really excited, expecting a high level of cuisine and service.
When we arrived, we were offered the 7-course discovery menu for $155 per person, and we gladly agreed. The dishes looked beautiful and were quite unique in taste. We were waiting for the main course, and finally, the duck was served. It was cut into small pieces but looked raw at first glance. I thought that couldn’t be possible in a fine dining restaurant, so I tried to cut it with a knife — but it wouldn’t cut at all, and blood started coming out.
I assumed it might be the chef’s intention, so I tried to taste a piece — but it was impossible to chew, and I had to spit it out.
A waiter came by. Unlike the previous servers who were professional and attentive, this one seemed careless and in a hurry to finish his shift. He saw the untouched duck on my plate and the piece I had tried. I told him the duck was raw. He asked if I wanted it cooked more. I said, “No, I don’t want this dish anymore.” Then he asked, “You didn’t like it?” and I replied, “The meat is not chewable.”
I’m not a person who likes to complain, but I expected at least an apology or for him to tell the chef. Instead, he silently took the plate and left.
When he brought the bill — $360 — he also reminded us that we had to select the tip amount first. My husband said we were disappointed and didn’t leave any tip. The waiter muttered, “It’s not my fault the duck was undercooked,” turned around, and walked away angrily.
I told him he should have informed the chef or manager that a guest was served raw, poorly prepared meat — but he just stormed off.
We quietly stood up and left this “fine dining” restaurant, paying $364.47, feeling completely disrespected. No one apologized. No one even said goodbye.
Maybe the reason was that our reservation was late — 9 p.m., and the restaurant closes at 10:30. It seemed like everyone just wanted to go home, and the chef didn’t finish cooking the duck, while the waiter pretended nothing happened and still expected a generous tip.
The night before, we had dinner at a small restaurant (I don’t even remember the name) that cost us $125 for two, and we were amazed by the food and service. We truly expected a world-class experience at this “starred” restaurant and were ready to pay for it — but instead, we left with deep disappointment and the unpleasant aftertaste of raw duck.

WE got lucky! We arrived with no reservations but were able to score a table for 4. I have indicated that reservations are required and if you really want to dine her, make a reservation! However we had none but they checked and were able to seat us. The dining area filled quickly after our arrival, so again, make a reservation!
The food and service were excellent. 3 ordered the filet and I ordered the scallops. The filet was cooked to perfection. The scallops were served with roasted brussel sprouts, broccoli and small onions. The creme brule was perfectly glazed and the chocolate tartlet was to die for! From looking at previous posts, their menu changes from time to time, but I'm sure you will find something to bless your taste! All 4 of us highly recommend Le Saint-Amour and if we are blessed to return to Quebec City, we'll call ahead for reservations!

Been here many times over the past twenty years - both for business discussions and family celebrations. I’ve always enjoyed the creative, delicious meals and efficient service whether for lunch or dinner. It was introduced to me by two friends of mine that live in Ville de Québec…..and I’m very grateful!

Food is okay. I went for seared foie gras. The sauce is a bit too heavy and sweet. Steak was well cooked. The garnish got some herb purée that I’m not used to the earthy taste. Service is really slow. Food comes very slow as well. Bread is cold and I asked additional bread for three times to get it. Took us more than two hours for three courses.

Spent $630CA for 2 people and the food was just okay. We ordered the tasting and split a wine pairing. For that price the food needs to be incredible and it just wasn’t. It definitely wasn’t inventive food. The food was stuffy. Maybe ordering a la carte would have been a better value. To me, it’s the most expensive tourist trap I’ve ever been to.

Nice restaurant. No real complaints but in other restaurant of this class they take time to explain the tasting selection, a bit of background on the preparation and the wine characteristics. In this case it seemed rushed and they let the food speak for itself.

An experience to remember! My husband enjoyed the scallops as the main course, while I wanted to experience Chef Boulay's squab. Amazing! And if you enjoy fine wines, you will not be disappointed. Worthy of its Michelin recognition 👏

This is probably the greatest restaurant in the world. Amazing food, accommodating staff, memorable interior. If I could eat one thing for all 3 meals for the rest of my life it would be anything from this place. If you don't go here when in quebec it would be a huge missed opportunity for you. Even their takeout boxes with embossed lettering look like gifts. Go there!
