I had occasion to try Rutherford's latest foray in satisfying foods this past weekend. The Pollo Poulet, a sublime pie laden with Ray's fine smoked chicken breast, mushrooms, mozzarella, and their homemade BBQ sauce.
I've given it a few days reflection before being sure... am I sure, I want to heap praise so high, they may stop innovating, hang up their aprons, creating new superb meals? I don't want to take the wind out of their sails by suggesting to them, we've done it, we can reach no higher, perfection is achieved.
Ray's smoked meats are refined to high art, tirelessly workshopped over years of striving to make the very best – locally and most recently at their Lascelles (Greater Wakefield area) food truck, now moved inside the walls of the La Peche General Store, where I secured this pizza – as well as just prior at the Black Sheep on Wakefield bay, and notably, over some years, at a Halifax bistro for the foodie-focused where I understand Ray cut his chef teeth working culinary alchemy.
Everything is locally-made, well-thought-out, balanced, and frankly, simply beautiful in that food-so-fine your eyes roll back in your head way (and you may be at risk of them staying there).
The Pollo Poulet was perfectly cooked with delectable crust - not snootily thin, not preposterously puffy, but just right. The sauce is a flavour dream, and the marriage of ingredients here is so inspired as to suggest a heavenly pizza matrimony. Share it with friends if you must, but know that it's a pizza you could tuck in with solo and simply get a room. With the lovely Katie at front of house queuing up the parade of pizzas marching from Ray’s oven, Rutherford's Pizza is à ne pas manquer, as the French say.

The Barpa burger is my favourite burger in the whole region. Especially with the slice of roasted red pepper they added on for me!

Amazing food and service. Totally worth the 30 minute cycle!!

Rutherford's has relocated to Lacelles from Wakefield.

Excellent service from Katie. Many cottagers and locals were there on a sunny Sunday.

The food at Rutherford's is consistently amazing! Every menu item makes my mouth water and the friendly service is always top tier! Highly recommend making the drive, you won’t be sorry. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🌻

This little gem is worth the detour! The brisket is excellent, very good and tender, and the poutine... I don't know what's in it (really, we're still struggling to find it!) but it has an absolutely sublime taste that I've never seen it in a poutine. 100% worth the detour!! The owners are super nice and the prices are VERY reasonable. A+++
NOTE: Google is a little off on the address and hours, but what doesn't help is that their website hasn't been updated either. I confirm as of August 2024 that they are on Ch. des Érables in Alcove and not in Wakefield! Voicemail information is up to date. :)

Poutine and Lemonade summer lunch at Rutherfords Food truck was wonderful!! Service was exceptional! Always nice when someone remembers your name!!! Will definitely go back to try many of the specialities. The Cauliflower with Chipotle sauce, brisket and pulled pork and much more!!!

The food was excellent, and their portion are quite big. Service was awesome - they deliver your take-out order directly to your car in the small parking on Mill Street. The lady who brought our food was very nice, smilly and helpful when we requested additional ketchep, etc.First time ordering from this place and definitely not the last!

Such a fantastic meal from Rutherfords - got the crispy chicken sando and the BBQ meat and both knocked it out of the park. Pickle brine marinated chicken? Yes please. A lovely staple of Wakefield and I definitely plan on coming back and trying it all.
