First time I’ve been disappointed by the Mews. I’ve been coming here for years and never had a problem but the other day when my group and I walked in, the hostesses greeted us and said to head upstairs when I asked for a table in the pub. When we got up there and took a seat at one of the half dozen empty tables, the waiter/bartender explained that I needed to check in with the host downstairs to be seated at one of the tables. We went back downstairs to check in and explained that we needed to check in despite already being sent up by the hostesses. When we went back downstairs the hostesses were chatting together at the desk and seemed almost annoyed that we interrupted when we asked for a table. When they asked how many in our party we told them we had 6 and that the last of our party was parking and would be up shortly. They then very shortly said that we had to sit at the benches to wait for everyone before we could be seated (no mention of being able to wait at the bars). I’ve never had this at the mews before especially on a night that was not remotely busy. As we waited on the bench the group of hostesses continued to chat and would be whispering and glancing at us (again seemingly annoyed that we bothered them to ask for a table) once the last of our group arrived and we were finally allowed to sit, they took us to a table downstairs. When we asked about sitting upstairs they said that there weren’t any tables available. However, we had just been upstairs and saw numerous tables that would accommodate our group that were free and had not seen any other groups go up in the time we waited, meanwhile multiple groups left from upstairs after their meals meaning that there were more than half a dozen tables available upstairs. We found the hostesses to be quite cold and unapologetic for sending us upstairs only to be sent back down, making us wait instead of letting us get started at our table (again, far from busy) and refusing our request to sit upstairs. Our group was nothing but polite and simply asked for a table and were met with unexpectedly rude service from the front desk. We have all been coming to the mews for years and have never had a bad experience. This was the first time I’ve not enjoyed my time at the restaurant and felt the need to explain it in a review. Very disappointed with the way our group was treated as an afterthought/inconvenience. I will reconsider where to eat next time I think of going to the Mews.

They removed all the good whiskeys, serve nothing but mostly disgusting IPAs, and the food is the same quality as the stuff you find at the jail. Mews got new ownership, and the new owner made this place an absolute disgrace of what it used to be.
PS. All the waitresses and waiters downstairs are as many people already said—useless and soulless. Avoid going downstairs if you can eat at the upstairs bar. Those people, at least, can pretend to be nice.

Came here tonight and it was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant. It wasn’t busy at all, and somehow I was missing three toppings from a regular burger. Server didn’t check on us and was nowhere to be found, except for the hostess stand talking. Got my burger back still missing a topping which I didn’t care about anymore, but noticed that the chefs slabbed on a very cold piece of cheese that was missing. Server still didn’t check on us so whatever. Hostess’s were super rude, just awkwardly watched us walk in and out along with other Staff around the stand. Oh, and please don’t order the sweet chili wings. If you want a painfully awkward/uncomfortable dinner please come here!

Monica is an icon, an absolute sweetheart, and honestly the reason I keep coming back. A sweet baby angel if I’ve ever seen one! Can’t wait to come back!

Our waitress Monica G. Just fire her. Most useless, annoying human being I ever had to deal with. Takes forever to do anything. Might be because she hates her job or something. Her attitude is disgusting, rude and lazy. I had to track her down just to pay for my meal because she just vanishes and no where to be seen while im waiting trying to go home and pay for my food. The food was average at best and this restaurant really went down hill.
Passing through Wakefield and happened upon Mew's Tavern, glad we did! Maxwell G provided excellent service. I am gluten intolerant and he took the time to go over a few items on the menu, made suggestions and made sure I understood the sauces had gluten in them. Sometimes it is a struggle to dine out but he made it so much easier. The pulled pork and brisket were excellent.
