The Box East Bay is a gourmet taco stand that opened in Warren, Rhode Island in June 2019. It was founded by Matthew King. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, King has 35 years of experience working for a major contract food service facility that focused on the leisure and entertainment segment. Eventually he decided that he wanted to be his own boss. King came up with an idea to develop food trailers that can convert to multiple concepts. For his first project, he intended to sling pizzas on his Italian-made wood-burning oven. His girlfriend convinced him to focus on tacos instead. King's tacos were essentially a hybrid between traditional street tacos and Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas. All tortillas are handmade by himself with a mixture of wheat flour and corn. He converted a vintage former horse trailer into a retrofitted food stand outfitted with a removable wood-burning oven. King cleared out an area on his front lawn to permanently park the trailer. The operation was dubbed "The Taco Box" when it first opened, but by July 2022 it was renamed "The Box East Bay" to reflect its growing menu. My family and I visited The Box this past August while we were driving back home from a week-long trip to Cape Cod. We stopped along the East Bay Bike Path in Warren for a bathroom break and to grab some frozen lemonades from Del's. We looked across the street, saw The Box and thought that some street tacos would make a delicious lunch. We had no idea what we were in for. The food stand is surrounded by a beautiful garden and some picnic tables for customers to sit at. We started off with a plate of "Chips & Pico with Guacamole": something quick to get our appetite going. Then my wife and I ordered the "Shrimp Taco" (wild caught Gulf of Mexico shrimp, red onion, shredded cabbage, cilantro, lime vinagreta) and "Street Corn Taco" (flame roasted corn, black beans, charred sweet mild chilies, avocado, lime garlic mayo) to share as well as a "Cheese Quesadilla" for our son. We were shocked when we received our tacos. Not only were they huge but they resembled Neapolitan pizzas more than tacos. We folded them in half and ate them like a taco. The tortillas were crunchy and charred on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. These tacos were spectacular; just busting with flavor from the fresh ingredients (some of which were grown right in the garden). We are so happy that we discovered The Box by accident and would definitely stop again the next time we find ourselves in Warren!

Great local spot just off the EB bike path. Very dog friendly, great food, great staff/ownership. Add corn to whatever you order!Note that they’ll likely be closed if it’s raining hard

Great and unique tacos made on a crispy pizza crust. They are huge, so plenty for two people. The owner, and I didn't get her name, is a smiling delight.

Finally stopped for a bite today. Very hip and friendly spot. Right off the Warren Bike Path near Dells Lemonade. Ordered the street corn taco. (These are NOT Taco Bell style Taco's) Wow, what a different and tasty taco. Cooked in a wood-fired oven. The Tacos are huge and almost the size of a small pizza. We had our cut in 1/2 made it easier to fold and eat. It was a quick bite but worth every penny. I will be returning for more. This is truly a hidden gem.

This is the best find. Unlike any taco I've had. Freshness is quality. Mexican Sweet corn taco with great toppings. Fresh ripe avocado, lime is so amazing. The taco box is a retro food truck, permanently at this spot. It's definitely delicious. Sit or take home and they have cute T's just in case you don't want to forget where you had those amazing tacos!

Loved these wood grilled tacos. They make their own shells. Different and delicious.

This place has so many amazing reviews and I’ve been wanting to try for so long so I finally did. And I have to say, I was not a fan of the food. The Taco Box itself is so cute and the people who work there are very nice. So points for that! But the carne asada “taco” I got was very strange and not what I was expecting. It is more of a pizza and just didn’t taste right to me. I only ate about half of it and didn’t feel well the rest of the evening. The chips with pico and guacamole were disappointing as well. The pico was okay but the guacamole tasted like the kind you get at the store in the refrigerated section. Small portion too. I paid $20 for everything and overall, I just wasn’t impressed. Not to say that someone else won’t enjoy it, but if you are wanting traditional tacos like I was, this isn’t the spot.

Firstly, these are NOT tacos not even in spirit. The mixing of wheat and corn for the dough leads to an abnormal taste and texture compared to real tacos. Furthermore, it is the size of a small flatbread pizza and comparable with the cheeses used. The carne asada was bland and not complimented by the ingredients piled onto the flatbread, which consisted of coleslaw and sour cream. To further my disappointment I paid 13 dollars for something not much larger than my hand, that was about 40% burnt. For the second part of my order I purchased a shrimp taco. The shrimp was over cooked and once again really lacking with complimentary flavor. The service was acceptable and fast.Overall, poor flavor combinations for far too high a price. With a misleading title of Taco.

It was delicious! We ordered Carne asada and shrimp! It's like a taco pizza. 10/10

Best quesadilla I've ever tasted. The only criticism I have is their signage is too busy; hard to tell what the name of the place is --there's a dog or something on the signs? But the QUESADILLAS, man, they are freakin' amazing. The dough is amazing. The slightly-charred exterior and the way they cook the chicken in an outdoor grill -- it's just the best. I've tasted many restaurants' quesadilla, and this is hands down the best!

Holy cow, this is the best thing I’ve eaten in RI in a long time. The tacos are massive and delicious. I can’t wait to come back.
