My wife and I had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. There is a fish/meat or vegetarian option. The first course was tuna crudo with radish kimchi; the second course was a warm crab bisque; third course was a choice of monkfish or lobster; fourth course was scallops or Wagyu (with Japanese A5 Wagyu an extra $65). We had all of the dishes, and all were really excellent. The base level wine pairing was totally on point - incredibly well chosen to go with the food. The cheese course was fine, and the desert was really good. The wine list is very impressive. It was a great meal, but it is not cheap - dinner at a top of the line Relais and Chateaux place never is.

Overpriced and dissapointed is the title of this review. To be honest the food was not good. I have no issue dropping 700 dollars on a dinner, but please provide some substance. Although I have eaten dinner here and again, I was not impressed. This review is for the Christmas dinner.
Food. Nothing blew me away here. It was just meh. I dont want meh if I am spending money here. Blow me away with meals that taste amazing. Everything was bland. Even the dessert was not good. Just some rolled log of foam.
Service. Everyone was kind and accommodating. However, I was surprised that the table was not cleaned after every dish. Standard practice for a restaurant of this caliber.
Ambience. Being that this was a Christmas dinner, I felt like it was just another day here. The dining room was not decorated to make it feel like Christmas. Just some Christmas music and a wreath, dont cut it. The entrance of the hotel goes all out, therefore, so should the restaurant. Even the lighting was not up to par.
Overall, I was not impressed with the Christmas dinner at Coast. The experience was very disappointing. For what I paid (22% service charge, tip, etc) versus the dinner. It was not worth it. Maybe the Chef put in a lot of time for this menu, but the ball was dropped. Relais & Châteaux standards have dropped with Coast.

Exceptional service and all around positive experience! I am hesitant to say anything negative about this venerable place because I love it. However, establishments which strive for perfection and promote themselves as the best, need to attain excellence at every turn. This was not the case at last nights dinner at the Coast, Ocean House's finest restaurant. I treated my friend to a special birthday dinner and the entirety of the experience held its worth. Dinner was fun, delicious and very, very salty. Not just one dish (Stonington lobster with noodles was a challenge to eat, despite the generally good flavor, and I could not finish it) but a couple of other items suffered (especially the accompanying carrot offered with the Wagyu beef dish swam in large sea salt flakes). Now this may sound picky but, the expectation is perfection, and it was not. The dinner was great but it didn't feel special. Sad because it was very expensive. Fortunately, the exceptional service made up for the slightly disappointing food. All of this being said, I recognize how difficult it must be to bring your “A”game every single day. I'll give them another try with the hope that the “A game” is on the menu.
This a fabulous restaurant. A farm to table price fixe menu- the food was spectacular. Worth every penny. The service was the best- every need attended to by the very friendly and incredibly professional staff. overlooking the ocean- the views literally could not have been better. It is pricey- but completely worth it.
We choose Coast to celebrate special occasions. Food is always excellent, location is incredible, and service is very good, though on our last visit it was very difficult to understand the hostess - heavy accent and very soft spoken. Prices have always been high, but lately they have gotten very high while the portions keep getting smaller. On our last visit, I left hungry, which is hard to believe after a $400 dinner bill for 2 - it's a price fixed menu and we had one drink each. But what I found hardest to believe is they charge a $5 valet parking fee - very low class move for a high class restaurant. A few Vera's ago the valets refused tips.
We were disappointed in a couple issues we would not have expected from this level of dining: failure to clear used dishes between courses and failure to bring wine that was ordered. Perhaps our server was having a bad evening at the office because she also brought the wrong check at the end. Detracted from a very nicely presented meal.
I proposed to my amazing girlfriend right before going to Ocean House "Coast" section and it was truly outstanding in every way. The chef prepare the most delicious meal of my life, the staff was beyond friendly & knowledgeable, and the view/atmosphere was genuinely breathtaking. Thank you so much for making this the best dinner experience of our lives! It was unbelievable in every single aspect!
Perfection! The food and service are beyond compare. We are amazed at the recipes the Chef's are able to create and also their ability to implement them so beautifully on the plate. The food is beyond delicious. Meredith, the Manager of Coast, is very personable and keeps a close watch over everything and everyone. We have known Meredith for quite a few years and she always greets us so warmly and even remembers stories we have told her over the last few years. She is an excellent manager. Our waitress, Elaine, who was also our waitress in the Spring, is very friendly and knowledgeable. Elaine was able to describe every detail of the food presentations and also gave very good information about the wines that were chosen for the wine pairings. The Chef and staff sneaked in an extra course of the pasta for us to share. It was delicious and very much appreciated. At the end of dinner, Meredith surprised us with a smaller version of the cheese plate because she knew we always ordered a cheese plate in Coast but did not last night. Very kind and thoughtful and again very appreciated. The assistants in the dining room are all very pleasant and they all do a wonderful job! We enjoyed catching up with Byron. Thank you for a lovely evening. PERFECTION!

I regret not taking any pictures of our meal. Great food, great service, great staff and really just a rather surprisingly dull room in which it was served. However, it was illuminated by my companion who is amazing. One of the problems was that this restaurant with fabulous views out over the Atlantic is on a headland and it was dense fog, hence we could see nothing.
Vegetarian options: There are two tasting menus, one is vegetarian and the other one is for the omnivores.
Kid-friendliness: Unless your kids have very sophisticated palates, i.e. they went to school in France and are used to eating real food as compared to a lot of the pap that is served in many schools or restaurants where children eat, this is not a restaurant for kids. Also, this restaurant would require children to actually have a good manners, sitting in their seats, and not run around.

We were impressed by our whole experience. This was a special occasion for us and a perfect place celebrate. In our increasingly casual world, we felt pampered. Our server,Bayron knowledgeably presented and explained our drink and food selections and the entire team supplemented his attention. We chose the vegetable set menu and every dish was not only delicious but artfully plated. Our table overlooked the beach with the colorful bathers and cerulean sea. We are locals and hadn't visited the Ocean House in too long. We look forward to our next visit.
It was a really lovely meal with fabulous service. There was a lot of food and I particularly liked the Tuna Tartare. The cheese plate is being consumed as I type this for breakfast :) The lamb was delicious. Yep, brilliant experience.
The dishes, ambiance, wine pairings and staff at Coast can be summed up in two words. Elegant Perfection......thank you again for our lovely evening. See you in July.....Mark and Michelle
Absolutely outstanding meal. Probably should be reviewed by Michelin for the quality of service alone. The staff was extremely attentive, the sommelier was exceptionally knowledgeable. The food and plating was excellent.
Our waitress, E....., was outstanding. Very knowledgeable and informative as to each sampling being served. She definitely made our Mother's Day dinner a memorable one. Thank you very much!
