Coast's quietly elegant ambience, top-level attentive service, and panoramic ocean views make it a great special-occasion destination. And, unlike many restaurants that let great views excuse mediocre food, Coast's prix fixe menu gets top marks start to finish, including gluten-free adaptations where needed for one of us. Everything was beautifully prepared, with intriguing and delicious flavors and garnishes. The portions for each of the five courses were sized just right, so that we did not end up uncomfortably filled, just happily thrilled! I also highly recommend a wine pairing add-on that's available. Even though we "settled" for the less expensive of the pairing menus, every wine was perfectly matched to the food, and knowledgeably described by our server. All told, a memorable dining experience!
We had an absolutely outstanding dinner experience at Coast this past weekend. The five course tasting menu was absolutely delicious, the service was impeccable, and we enjoyed every minute there. Thank you so much to the staff for recognizing the special anniversary we were celebrating and making us feel so welcome and honored.
Coast restaurant and Ocean House were an amazing experience! Way up in our top 5, include most of the exclusive top NYC restaurants (Per Se, Le Cirque, Le Benardin, Del Posto, Oceana, Daniel, Les Celebrites, and too many other to name). A great way to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary! Beside the amazing attention and level of service (with several Prix Fixe menu ingredient modifications due to food allergies), we were blown away by Chef's cuisine and presentations. The Bluefin Tuna starter was a pièce de résistance, only outdone by the White Chocolate Pumpkin dessert filled with White Chocolate Mousse! Complementing the restaurant, was the amazing Ocean House exterior entry, lobby and lounge. There was a wedding in progress on the broad lawn, just off the ocean. And the ocean view from our window-side table was incredible, with beautiful evening sunlit surf slowly giving way to a rising near Full Moon thru dinner. It really was a perfect day after antiquing in the New London area and next-door Stonington, CT. Our only regret was rushing to finish, in order to catch our ferry back to LI! Next time we'll overnight at Ocean House to get the full experience in a more relaxed pace... PS. Writing this while nibbling on the amazing take-away treat box we got at the end of our meal!
Great overall experience. Service was outstanding. Food was very very good and interesting.
Meal was five courses or so, but small portions so amount of food was good, not excessive. Everything was delicious. After all was done and bill was paid the server brought a plate with a few small sweet bites and said “we have one more thing we request you eat”. Love a server with a sense of humor.
We stayed at Ocean House for a long weekend and had dinner to celebrate our anniversary at Coast, located within the resort. Each course in this the pre-fixe menu was delicious. Coast uses the local harvest and seasonal seafood offerings to meld flavors for culinary decadence. I was very pleased with our dinner offerings which included tuna, crab, lobster, halibut, strip loin steak, and dessert. Having dined at many Michelin restaurants in the US and Europe, I thought the value of $145/person was reasonable for this culinary experience and the service was excellent.
All expectations were exceeded. From the food to the personable service, everything was top tier. This was an absolutely exceptional experience that neither me nor my fierce will ever forget. Thank you all so much for the wonderful evening.
Byron was a fantastic server, and food was delicious.
This is an extraordinary restaurant, also unique because you can only order a Prix fix Menu. There is a dress code, but we felt it was neither stuffy nor super strict. The food is excellent and the friendly service fantastic without being overbearing. Depending where you sit the views are wonderful. While the food is very good, the mix of sauces and different elements can be a little overwhelming and distracting. But all in all highly recommended!

My wife and I had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. There is a fish/meat or vegetarian option. The first course was tuna crudo with radish kimchi; the second course was a warm crab bisque; third course was a choice of monkfish or lobster; fourth course was scallops or Wagyu (with Japanese A5 Wagyu an extra $65). We had all of the dishes, and all were really excellent. The base level wine pairing was totally on point - incredibly well chosen to go with the food. The cheese course was fine, and the desert was really good. The wine list is very impressive. It was a great meal, but it is not cheap - dinner at a top of the line Relais and Chateaux place never is.

Overpriced and dissapointed is the title of this review. To be honest the food was not good. I have no issue dropping 700 dollars on a dinner, but please provide some substance. Although I have eaten dinner here and again, I was not impressed. This review is for the Christmas dinner.
Food. Nothing blew me away here. It was just meh. I dont want meh if I am spending money here. Blow me away with meals that taste amazing. Everything was bland. Even the dessert was not good. Just some rolled log of foam.
Service. Everyone was kind and accommodating. However, I was surprised that the table was not cleaned after every dish. Standard practice for a restaurant of this caliber.
Ambience. Being that this was a Christmas dinner, I felt like it was just another day here. The dining room was not decorated to make it feel like Christmas. Just some Christmas music and a wreath, dont cut it. The entrance of the hotel goes all out, therefore, so should the restaurant. Even the lighting was not up to par.
Overall, I was not impressed with the Christmas dinner at Coast. The experience was very disappointing. For what I paid (22% service charge, tip, etc) versus the dinner. It was not worth it. Maybe the Chef put in a lot of time for this menu, but the ball was dropped. Relais & Châteaux standards have dropped with Coast.

Exceptional service and all around positive experience! I am hesitant to say anything negative about this venerable place because I love it. However, establishments which strive for perfection and promote themselves as the best, need to attain excellence at every turn. This was not the case at last nights dinner at the Coast, Ocean House's finest restaurant. I treated my friend to a special birthday dinner and the entirety of the experience held its worth. Dinner was fun, delicious and very, very salty. Not just one dish (Stonington lobster with noodles was a challenge to eat, despite the generally good flavor, and I could not finish it) but a couple of other items suffered (especially the accompanying carrot offered with the Wagyu beef dish swam in large sea salt flakes). Now this may sound picky but, the expectation is perfection, and it was not. The dinner was great but it didn't feel special. Sad because it was very expensive. Fortunately, the exceptional service made up for the slightly disappointing food. All of this being said, I recognize how difficult it must be to bring your “A”game every single day. I'll give them another try with the hope that the “A game” is on the menu.
This a fabulous restaurant. A farm to table price fixe menu- the food was spectacular. Worth every penny. The service was the best- every need attended to by the very friendly and incredibly professional staff. overlooking the ocean- the views literally could not have been better. It is pricey- but completely worth it.
We choose Coast to celebrate special occasions. Food is always excellent, location is incredible, and service is very good, though on our last visit it was very difficult to understand the hostess - heavy accent and very soft spoken. Prices have always been high, but lately they have gotten very high while the portions keep getting smaller. On our last visit, I left hungry, which is hard to believe after a $400 dinner bill for 2 - it's a price fixed menu and we had one drink each. But what I found hardest to believe is they charge a $5 valet parking fee - very low class move for a high class restaurant. A few Vera's ago the valets refused tips.
We were disappointed in a couple issues we would not have expected from this level of dining: failure to clear used dishes between courses and failure to bring wine that was ordered. Perhaps our server was having a bad evening at the office because she also brought the wrong check at the end. Detracted from a very nicely presented meal.
