the best martini, and food served by the best waitstaff and prepared by the best chef... a winning combination for this local, repeat customer!! can't wait to return.
Tara our waitress and Bartender was great. The drinks were very good. The atmosphere relaxing. Unfortunately the food was so so. We had been a couple months prior and was told the Chef was new. Was giving a second chance. Was ok but not worth the price.
I asked for a romantic quiet table.. We were placed between 2 very loud tables.. Fortunately we were able to be moved to another room that was very nice..Our waitress was very nice but distracted and forgot to provide silverware for an entree.. Food was very good.. we shall return..
I really want to focus my review on the food. I was told by the waitress that the call Mary was only “very lightly breaded”- when it came to the table it was crusted in very thick breading. There was supposed to be roasted garlic in the preparation (as per the menu’s description)
The heavily breaded calamari had jarred banana peppers thrown on top. It was mostly all tentacles, heavily encrusted in tasteless heavy breading. It was not at all what I was expecting; and wished when I’d asked our waitress; she’d been truthful with me.
Onto the shrimp and grits.
The peppers were so crudely chopped- it looked like they were chopped my a five year old with a butte knife. Absolutely no care was taken- and it just came across as someone very unskilled cooking in the kitchen. It’s pretty unbelievable that food goes out looking like that and no one in. Management bats an eye. Maybe most people don’t know better. As a skilled home cook; to go to whet looks like a really nice restaurant and see that kind of hack job on my meal- is really really disappointing and upsetting. I will never return to eat a meal here. The food is poor quality and not prepared with care or love

We always enjoy our time at Shelter Harbor Inn. Good phone, relaxing experience, wonderful service. Thank you.
I usually don’t like leaving bad reviews as a business owner but turning down a guest because they will be taking a quiet zoom meeting during dinner seemed like I was being racially profiled. I eat and take zoom meetings from much better restaurants and it has never bothered anyone in fact zoom meetings are quieter than real ones
We enjoyed our meals at SHI. Everything was delicious and service was excellent! Love their new look and menu. We will see you more often!
Very noisy it was almost impossible to have a conversation with each other and even with the waitress. Food was mediocre at best. There is no ambience inside
I've been to the SHI restaurant about 10x. Our waitress was wonderful and I'll say she is always great--happy, attentive, down-to-earth, and funny. She is always "on" and she covers many tables. Very disappointed to see that the main dining room was closed for renovation which I think is weird because didn't they just renovate it a few years ago??? The hostess tried to seat us in the area behind the check-in-desk at a very awkward table. I think this used to be a sitting area for the hotel. My teens thought the hostess had a bit of attitude when I asked to be seated in the smaller dining room with the bar which is a pleasant space. I thought the food was good but nothing spectacular. I have had some of the best meals of my life here. Generally I felt that it wasn't their best on this particular night.
Amazing experience! From the food to the service- was impeccable! Such an unassuming place but I am so glad I found this gem! Please go and check them out!

Everything about our dining experience was top notch. The food cooked perfectly, the service was impeccable. Everyone was so nice and the restaurant/outdoor area is beautiful.

We've been coming to Shelter Harbor Inn Restaurant since 1983, through its many incarnations, some better than others. Last night was a pleasant surprise, with a few standout dishes that will definitely bring us back. The pot belly fried clams and French fries were among the best I've ever had, crisp, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The linguine with white clam sauce and the chowder were also delicious. Both fish entrées featured incredibly fresh seafood; while the toppings could use a little fine-tuning, they came close to hitting the mark. Our waitress, Betty, was wonderful, attentive, warm, and efficient. I noticed renovations underway, and I hope they include updates to make the dining room feel cozier and more inviting. If noise continues to be an issue, some simple sound mitigation could go a long way. Please bring back the Indian Pudding and hot fruit cobblers for desert! Overall, a promising visit with excellent service and several memorable dishes. We'll be back!
We had a reservation hit 7:15 and were seated immediately. We had a choice of indoor tables, but did not take any if those due to deafening noise level. Seriously, infoufctock concerts are quieter. We at outdoors which was ok but BUGGY!! The food was good. Clam chowder was creamy, clammy and tasty. Fish and chips were crispy and fresh.
The food and service were great, but the menu was disappointing. As someone with celiac, there were very few gluten-free options, and almost everything was seafood—very limited for non-fish eaters. No GF desserts or even basic options like ice cream/sorbet. Why not have ice cream? Not sure we'd return due to the lack of gluten-free and meat choices.
The meal at Shelter Harbor was delicious and the service and ambiance was lovely. We had calamari as an appetizer, and it was the best we have ever had. They were very tender, and the sauce was delicious. My husband had Shrimp and Grits which had a little southern kick, and it said it was terrific. I had a Lobster Roll which was overflowing with Lobster accompanied by tasty French Fries. Our drinks were refreshing as well. There is outside seating if you like (the night we went was 100 degrees, so it wasn't opened) *** We were also staying at Shelter Harbor, and we recommend those accommodations as well.
