The Veranda used to be one of our favorite places to dine at the Ocean House. We haven't been in a few years so not sure when the change took place. What used to be an elevated experience is now very bland. Bright lighting for dinner (awful), an odd layout of tables, an abbreviated menu more suitable for lunch. Such a disappointment. Our server was lovely though, and they brought out cupcakes for my daughter's birthday, which was very sweet. But if you are used to The Veranda of years past, go elsewhere. Or just have lunch and enjoy the view.

The view is unbeatable and the ambiance lovely. However, my hot lobster roll was lukewarm at best. My husband had a crab cake which tasted like a fish stick. We'll be back, but only for a drink and clams.

We ate outdoors at what would've been a beautiful table had it not been for so many bees bothering us. Had to move our table away from the best view. Food was fair at best; veggie burger flavor was good but too mushy to pick up in a roll. Waygu sandwich was way overcooked. But for the view, we would have been highly disappointed.

Clams were excellent as usual. Caesar salad was terrible. No flavor, dry with crumbles of croutons not full crotons. Waiter kindly removed the charge from my bill. Curry Chicken Salad sandwich was very good.

You can't beat the view and beauty of Ocean House. But, after being here a few times, the menu is limited, the food is average, and service has been average each time. For a Relais & Chateaux property, I'd expect better. I'd recommend going for a drink and maybe raw bar, but skip a larger meal.

Go for the view and ambience - NOT for the food or service. Fantastic views of the ocean on one side, croquet court and grounds of the Ocean House hotel. Over your other shoulder you can see the harbor and Stonington across the harbor. We had cocktails and dinner at 7pm and it was breathtaking. The service was fair-to-poor. Food was also fair-to-poor. I had a hot buttered lobster roll (which should have been spectacular given the New England location) and it was chewy, very disappointing for $52. Go for the view and have a glass of wine and a small bite and enjoy the view.
Awesome table, awesome view, awesome server! Our drinks were very good! I had been 2 weeks ago and had the lobster roll and it was delicious. I got it again and it was a little “soupy” and the bun was a little stale. It wasn't terrible but it just wasn't as good as the one I had 2 weeks ago.

Food was less than appetizing, bread was stale, tomatoes and pickles were mushy, drinks forgotten and no clam chowder available. This was not the five star quality expected, service also subpar, waitress wanted to be anywhere but at work. Unfortunately will not be returning anytime soon. Please work on hospitality and quality rather than the five star name.

We sat on the veranda, but the sun was beating down on our food and faces the whole time, 90 minutes. I believe this can be solved by having louvered wooden blinds but still have the view. We are defiantly not the first people to have to deal with this. Considering the cost of the food and how long everything took. They really need to resolve this.
