Me and my family had went there Friday and I had got the baseball steak and I asked for it to be medium well they brought it out rare I had to send it back to get it cooked like I want it and I had a bad odor to it like it was spoiled and when after I got done eating some of it I couldn’t hardly eat it and we said something to the manager about it that was there and he said it was somebody had stepped in something and brought it in? That’s what I was smelling so we just got our rest of it to go. We had stopped somewhere on the way home. Got back in the car. I told my wife she threw that food out that meat that I had cause it had the car stinking and I wound up half to pull over throw it all back up I have been sick all weekend from eating there. I just tried to go to work now. I’m on my way home because I’m still don’t feel good from eating there so me and my family will not be back there.

A Delightful Detour to The Boondocks!

Tucked away in Anderson, South Carolina, The Boondocks is a gem that feels like a home-cooked meal with a side of Southern charm. From the moment you step in, it’s clear this isn’t your average dining spot—it’s more like a family reunion where the food actually lives up to the hype. The menu is a delicious celebration of comfort food, and the portions are generous enough to make you question your life choices... in the best way possible. The fried chicken? Crispier than my sense of humor on a Monday morning. The mac and cheese? Creamy enough to make you believe in love at first bite.

The staff? They treat you like an old friend, even if you’ve never been there before. And the décor? It’s got that charming, rustic vibe that makes you feel like you’re dining in your grandma’s kitchen—if your grandma happened to have impeccable taste and a knack for Southern hospitality.

The Boondocks is worth the trip off the beaten path. Just make sure to arrive hungry and leave room for dessert (trust me, the banana pudding is life-changing). I’ll definitely be back—and next time, I’m wearing stretchy pants!

Food was okay. Way over priced. Paid $18 for a meat and 3 with a very small chicken fried chicken entree. We ordered a kids meal and they wrote it on our ticket and then scratched it out and charged us for an adult plate.

The servers were nice, however, we had several and one lady kept taking our plates as we were eating. She came to the table about 4 times taking peices and even took silverware off the plate I was eating off of.

Overall, horrible experience. Don't recommend at all. Attached picture of my $18 meal.

Have not been there in years because honestly it wasn't that good and overpriced. We pass the place alot driving on 81, saw oysters, catfish, and shrimp and grits added to menu. I told my wife we should go back and try it sometime. We'll we finally did my son came to visit so we decided to go. What a huge mistake food was not very good and so overpriced I think they need to close down and let somebody else come in there with better prices and food. Sorry for the bad review but I know now why I didn't go there and eat for so long because it really sucked.

We tried the Boondocks on the advice of some family, it came highly rated. We found the food is just ok (largely depending on what you get), the service is marginally ok (probably depends on the day). There are lots of fried foods, plenty of burger options and the burger meat tasted freshly ground, not likely frozen (not that rubbery hockey puck you get some places). Add salt!! The menu, tables, settings, decor, etc were all very dated. In fact, the menu hadn’t been updated since 2021. There’s a note that prices had increased “a few dollars” since the last menu update, and the gentleman who seated us was sure to tell us… so that was good, but prices seemed still (in my opinion) a bit unreasonable. The meat and 3 selection left a bit to be desired; all the food was under-seasoned (if at all), and the portions weren’t exactly substantial. Vegetables tasted as if they opened a can and microwaved them. Chicken fried chicken looked like it was cooked off, frozen, and then reheated for service. I would’ve preferred a much smaller menu with higher quality items… all in all, we won’t be back.

Vegetarian options: Very few reasonably priced options. All the vegetables I got contained pork, and you can’t be sure about sauces… nothing was specifically labeled as a veggie option.

Dietary restrictions: The selection of fried food and casseroles was great, but a side Caesar salad (minuscule) at $8-10 dollars without protein is entirely too much. There are plenty of greasy, or carb-heavy choices. If I recall, some items had “gluten free” listed beside them, but I’m not sure I’d trust it (menu hasn’t been updated in at least 3 years)

My husband and I tried Boondocks for the first time tonight.

The good: clean restaurant with personable servers, food served hot

The bad: the food was mediocre in taste, everything was lacking in seasoning. Additionally, the menus halve not been updated, so items such as petal sauce for onion rings are still listed when they are not available. The prices have also not been updated, so while we saw the note on the menu that states that "All prices have increased by $1-$2", we were not expecting that to be wrong as well. My burger, listed at $11 (with $2 of add-ons) was $18, and the lettuce was brown and starting to go bad. My husband got hamburger steak, listed at $10... his was $16 when the bill was brought. We also ordered a $14 app, which was priced at $16. Our bill was $53.46, without tip. With tip, our bill was $63.08.

In short, we won't be back considering I can go to a local steakhouse and pay less for two steak dinners.

The Sunday meat and three menu is ridiculously overpriced for the portions and quality. For example, the fried chicken is a very small piece of breast, and it was dry to the point of being inedible. The sides were ok…what you’d expect at an average meat+3 restaurant. After you add a glass of tea, it is over twenty dollars per meal. It’s a terrible value.

Was rolling down the highway and pulled off the road for some BBQ but my usual place wasn’t open. The Boondocks was across the street and the food was good and the service was as friendly as I have had anywhere. Good place.

This restaurant used to be good when I first reviewed 7 years ago. Now, the meat and 3 food quality is very poor, especially at the price of $35 for 2 people before tip. Canned green beans, bland steamed cabbage and squash casserole, and boxed cornbread mix. The grilled chicken was freshly grilled, which was nice.
