I would have loved to give more than two stars for our stay at the Inn however our stay turned from wonderful to unforgettable disappointment. Let me start with the good before I share the unfortunate. The kitchen staff, housekeeping and Shannon were amazing and welcoming. The food was tasty and hot. The room was quiet and the bed linens were clean and comfortable. Here is where the problems start. We stayed in room 3 of the main house 11/17-19). Here for both work and pleasure, I worked from the room while my boyfriend (who booked room) was at his clients office conducting training for two days. On the first day, while I was on a video work call, I heard the key pad lock to my door being pressed. In comes a random man. There was no cautionary/courtesy knock before entering the room. There he and I looked at each other, puzzled, likely for different reasons. I do not blame that poor maintenance man as he was told to enter my room for a wall that needed work (his words). He apologized and we both continued about our business. Then comes check out day (today) where it all went south. Around 11:30am I went out the back door (only door in use because of structural issue at front entrance) to return to a shop I had been to yesterday. As I came down the back door stairs a woman was smoking near the door. Not thinking anything of it, I went around her and continued on. Around 11:48am I came back to the Inn to gather my belonging, check out and wait for my BF to finish up his training and pick me up to head home. As I walked through the door, two women (one was cigarette lady) stared me down with scowls on their face. One proceeded to ask me what room I was in and when I answered the other proceeded to scold me about check out time being 11am and they had called me multiple times. I apologized profusely and told them my BF had told me it was 12pm (our fault) and I would get my belongings and be out of their
Way. They proceeded to snicker while I walked up the stairs. When at the top of the stairs I saw our door was wide open while all my belongings sat there. I came downstairs and again politely apologized by which Jenny (had a name tag on) continued to scold me. I reiterated that she called my BF who was standing in front of a podium teaching his clients and likely didn’t hear or see his phone. She and cigarette lady continued to give looks as if I had broken a precious artifact of the house. We take responsibility for check out issues. Lastly, as I sat here (with their permission) in the front room, cigarette lady talked about how much she made, how she paid 12k in taxes meanwhile filling the entire downstairs with the the smell of cheap cigarettes. If my employees acted in this manner when the entire websites describes this place as welcoming guests like they are family and providing a quaint environment, they would be terminated immediately.
We always stay at inns when we travel, preferring personalized service and local flavor. We were not disappointed with The Rhett House. Our room was in the cottage across the street. It was cozy and comfortable, had a fridge (important!) and lovely little electric fireplace. They have a nice selection for breakfast, served at individual tables (our preference). The nightly happy hour and dessert offering was just icing on the cake. Within walking distance of the downtown area and waterfront. Definitely go for some good southern hospitality and charm.
The Rhett House Inn location was perfect and Central to all downtown Beaufort. Food; service and staff all courteous and friendly.
I do give thumbs down on cleanliness, three stars. The house floors; rugs and furniture are in need of either replacement and/or thorough cleaning thought-out both public and private areas.
DO NOT GIVE THIS HOTEL YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION!
I am retired military. I made a reservation for this hotel (THE Rhett House) for the 10th thru 12th of November. 1st, they were only supposed to charge my card a DEPOSIT back in May. They dinged my card for the full amount of $840.00 I thought that was shady and I called them. I went with it seeing how I was going to be staying there. Now fast forward to 5 days prior to my reservation, and they charged my Credit card for another $1684.12. I called them. They lady said that she was forwarding it to her manager to have it credited back to my credit card. I had to call my bank and report fraud. We have to cancel my credit card due to Fraud on part of THE RHETT HOUSE. I have to pay for an overnight credit card because I travel in two freakin days and I have other reservations and this whole fiasco is going to cause problems for me I'm sure! DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE your credit card information.... DON'T... Today is the 5th of November and they have yet to return the $1684.12 they charged to my credit card. The bank says they have 5 business days before they get legally involved... But the charge and funds have been withdrawn from my Credit card.. And that's a lot of money. Maybe I needed those funds for the rest of my travel??? This is unsatisfactory, inexcusable and incredibly untrustworthy in the business industry period...
8th of November I see the $1684 credited back to my credit card.
10th of November, at Check-in. I was told by a Ms Aimee Tidwell via email a couple of days prior that I would receive a 10% refund for my troubles in the form of a check that would be left for me at the front desk. That didn’t happen.
Today is still the 10th of November, I find this hotel to be incredibly dishonest, integrity to be totally absent. And the only positive thing I have to say is that the room is as expected. I will be here for two days. I do not expect at this point to be able to trust or rely on anything from the people here except more lies and BS. You should not have to be a Marine to possess basic morals, integrity and honesty.
My thoughts? Stay somewhere else…. Definitely not worth it
Words cannot begin to express the greatness of the Inn and staff. Chef was excellent from breakfast to desert, housekeeping second to none, very clean and the Inn keepers were wonderful. Customer service was brought to a higher level with this group and highly recommend this Inn and staff!
Had a wonderful romantic weekend celebrating our 28 years of marriage.
What a wonderful Inn!! We stayed in room 19 and were surprised with staying in the house behind the house and all the room we had!!! Two rooms to share a house with a living room, full kitchen and lovely screened in porch!! And the price was excellent!!! Location wonderful as it was easy to walk places but the gem was the staff!!! Beverly, Tyler, Mark, Janet, Laurie and Adrian were so pleasant and helpful! I’m sure I left some names off like the ladies at the front desk and I apologize for not getting your names but truly everyone was so accommodating and pleasant!! It was awesome meeting the owners and being invited to the book talk. I will most definitely stay here again next year!!! Only negative I have is when it rained and the rain hit the AC. That was very noisy at night but hopefully when they renovate they can address that issue. Y’all were wonderful and helped make our weekend one to remember!
We had a wonderful two night stay at the Rhett House Inn. The breakfasts were fabulous, and Mark, our server was a delight.
Great snacks and a gorgeous place! We forgot our phone charger, and they sent it to us immediately. Many thanks for a memorable and enjoyable time.
Clean rooms. Friendly staff
A big shout out to Brittany - her pan cakes are awesome. The entire team is very friendly and so helpful if you have a question or are in need of something. Jane and her housekeeping team is doing a great job. We definitely enjoyed our stay.
Restaurantji Recommends
My wife Jane and I had the most wonderful breakfast made by Chef Beverly at The Rhett House Inn. The room, staff and everything was great. We would certainly recommend The Rhett House Inn to anyone. Just a great place to stay.
Dave & Jane
Great location to the historic district. Easy walk to the restaurants and shops.
Went to check only to find place under construction. The front porch was being held up by 2x4. Closed. Was afraid it would fall at anytime and damage my room. They refused to refund my money. Would never stay there again
I loved it! 10/10 service, 10/10 location, 10/10 service!! The breakfast was delicious!
The Rhett House Inn is where we went for our honeymoon. It is the epitome of Southern charm and hospitality. The coastal setting, quaint rooms and spacious porches make you want to grab a coffee or glass of wine and spend hours relaxing on the porch. The French toast and blueberry pancakes at breakfast are some of the best we have ever had! I highly recommend- we will be back!!
