drove over 3 hours to get there. Best thing was how polite the waitresses were! the chili burger had no real taste. manwich would be better. fries were not greasy but onion rings were. tea was the best. I do not recommend going here at all.

I should have read the reviews before going to Harolds.

Great chili burgers

After years of anticipation, I finally made the trip to Harold’s Restaurant in Gaffney, South Carolina—a place I first discovered on an early episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives . The moment I walked in, the nostalgic charm and no-frills atmosphere immediately set the stage for a memorable meal. I ordered their famous chili burger, which, true to its reputation, featured a savory chili sauce generously ladled over a soft bun. The chili, enriched with tender meatballs, offered a unique twist that elevated the dish beyond the typical hot dog chili.

The combination of flavors was so compelling that I couldn't resist taking some chili home. Harold’s has mastered the art of comfort food, delivering hearty portions and bold flavors that leave a lasting impression. For anyone seeking a classic Southern dining experience with a touch of culinary creativity, Harold’s is well worth the visit.

On the menu it has "chili burger" so I am expecting a burger. You get a sloppy joe....chili on a bun and no burger! A chili burger in the south is a burger with slaw and onions with chili so I find this completely misleading. The waitress should have been clear this was a sloppy joe. I ordered wings too. I asked for Hot and "extra crispy". I asked the waitress if extra crispy was an option and she said yes as all it means is they leave them in the fryer a little longer...she said this. What I got were wings that had been pre-deep fried then set under a warmer for some time before I ordered. They plated and put scant hot sauce on them. I won't go there since the main fact was the wings were not fresh and luke- warm. How disgusting! The waitresses were great and I tipped them accordingly as they kept me in sweet tea. I can't speak to the other menu items and maybe they are better...but really, a "chili burger" without the burger is chili on a bun....a freaking sloppy joe. Call it what it is!!!!

Food was okay, but be warned that they charge for EVERYTHING. I ordered a ham/turkey/cheese sandwich with mayo, lettuce and tomato. My husband ordered a chili burger with a little coleslaw, and we both had water. When we checked out, we had the following added to our bill:
2 cups water. .90
Lettuce and tomato. 1.25
Slaw. .75
Non cash adjust. 1.00
The chili burger did have a single 1" meatball, the slaw was in a one-ounce CONDIMENT cup. So apparently the ham/turkey/cheese is just that, between 2 slices of loaf bread. AND I've not been charged .45 for a styrofoam cup of water nor had to pay that much for using a credit card! We were planning on deciding this was a "repeat" until we saw the bill. We WON'T be back. Certainly not worth it.

The food was good, but Seems like I was a bit over charged on the 12 chili burgers the day the hurricane Helene came by. $62 seems a bit much for just 12 chili on buns with meatballs.

Food was OK not the best I've ever had. The waitresses were not very knowledgeable as they had told me one thing about my order but the manager told me something else!

I’m from Gaffney, and use to love this place!

Even though I don’t live there anymore, I try to visit every time passing through. This place has gone down hill, service is horrible, and the food quality isn’t there any more. I stoped in to day to get some food, but was in a hurry and wanted to support this long standing bussiness . I called in my order so it would be ready. I get there and there is an older gentleman standing at waited for service and not a staff member to be found. I could see my order written on a note just sitting on the counter. I had to point it out to the staff member when she asked what I ordered. Oh did I mention the other guy in front of me left pissed off too!

Then I have to wait for my food to be made, and the lady’s working just chatting away instead of making the food. Once I got the food it was a mess (I know these sandwiches are messy), when you open up the sandwich are just all over the place and chilly everywhere.

Tony, I love your place, and I have loved it ever since I was a kid, but quality just isn’t there anymore. I hope the next time I come back it’s improved!

Outstanding chilli burgers. A must try if you're within a 150 mile radius. You can get pints and quarts of the chilli with or without meatballs to go. Which is great because you're gonna want to get more to take home.
