Last night in town and visited Root! We ordered cheese curds which were over the top so those are going home! We both got specials; my wife went for pork chop and I went for scallops! Both delicious and bountiful! Food this week has been great!
Interesting side story; we went on trolley tour today, more about that later, and we were telling bartender about it and how great it was! He mentioned that owner of it was sitting at bar so we asked him to pass along our compliments. He did and owner came over and thanked us and told us story about ownership! Our server was efficient and entertaining, Shekia, along with the bartenders Joshua and Mac who made great drinks and made our night great!

Friendly and attentive staff, great food and nice atmosphere. I had the firecracker shrimp app and the grilled grouper with shrimp on a bed of grits with spinach. Very tasty! I ate at the bar and they have a patio with a view of the bay.

We had reservations outside but it was raining so we sat at a tables in the front bar area instead. In spite of many empty tables we were not seated. The server told me he was sick but not allowed to stay home. He never brought water or menus to our table just a drink menu. I finally asked another waiter if we could talk to the manager. Brad came over and took our order for a bottle of wine. The waiter eventually came back visibly coughing in his shirt. At this point we decided to leave. Very disappointed since we have been here numerous times.

Wife ordered seafood pasta and it didn’t have any lobster claw meat as stated on the menu and very bland I ordered the duck while the breast of the duck was pretty good the leg was tasteless and dry. Roasted potatoes were just that. Roasted with absolutely no seasoning and the asparagus while tasty hadn’t been trimmed at all. Wife ordered the now or later cocktail and it was awful. This was our second and last time

Our first time was last week. Had the Blackened Tiger shrimp on fettuccine, which was great. The website suggested dress casual so we did but many customer were casual including tee shirts and cargo shorts so don’t dress up at all.

Nice atmosphere. Food was good. Unfortunately they didn't have ingredients for 3 of their featured cocktails and couldn't mix two other standard cocktails requested. Had to settle for a beer. Service was adequate. I would like to try it again not during the holidays.
Very nice place on the strip in Georgetown. Get past the uninterested hostess and things start looking up. Four of us, all locals, were seated in a giant booth next to the bar. We were disappointed that several menu items weren't available, but the options were still pretty good. Grouper bites are ok but the fromage with fig jam was excellent. I had a rather small 14oz. prime ribeye that was cooked perfectly black and blue. Kudos to the chef. The elk was really nice, too. Creamed spinach was whole leaf, which was a little different but still ok. Heard no complaints from the rest of the table. The Old Fashions from the bar were generous. It's a little pricey for Georgetown, but still reasonable. Check the menu on line. Parking wasn't a problem. Will definitely return.

Whatever happened to Southern Hospitality? We’ve been dining at Root for several years and, as always, made reservations- this time specifically requesting a particular table for our table of nine. After confirming our request twice, we arrived to find our table was unavailable, despite it being emptied and just needing to be cleaned. When I asked the hostess about it, she said she would need to speak to the manager. When she returned, she appeared visibly angry and confrontational cleaning and setting the table that was requested. This made for a very uncomfortable evening.

We’ve visited Root for seven years now but this last visit was beyond disappointing. My entree was so greasy, part of it was actually cold and no presentation at all, just plopped on the plate. Truly miss the former staff and the wonderful food. At least we have the memories.
