We have been going to El Mag frequently for years, it's always been wonderful service and food. Last night was hands down the worst experience we've ever had. We had Angelica as our waitress, we ordered 3 waters, was not asked if we wanted a single refill the entire meal even after setting the cups on the edge of the table. We ordered an Amaretto Sour, instead of coming to the table and asking if we wanted something different bc they were out of something, they subbed in fireball and said if we don't like it we don't have to drink it. It was disgusting. We waited 45 mins for our food, a party of 10+ came in 20 mins after we did and they received their food before we did. Every single table around us was sat after us and they all received their food quickly. The portion size of the Texas rice was basically half the size it used to be and the shrimp were noticeable smaller as well. The steak and chicken were both charred. Very disappointing.

You pretty much can't go wrong in ordering. You'll definitely love them all unless you're picky, and in that case, they literally accommodate and allow substitutions too!
Vegetarian options: Don't eat at least 6 hours before going, so you'll be hungry and eat all of your dinner! If not, they show take- home of leftovers, even the free salsa and chips!
Kid-friendliness: Yes, just not around the bar area.
The bartender Celeste made sure I had everything I needed and made a very delicious churro that I will be back to have regularly now 😂😂

Went here for dinner. 5 of us. They charged us almost $30 more because there was 5 people. They force you to pay an extra 20% if you have 5 people and that was not disclosed at the begining of the meal. We spent almost $200. Will not return.

Still one of my favorite places to eat Mexican food. Service was prompt and very good. Food was great.
Walked in, waited for 5 mins at the front, 3 employees made eye contact with us, 1 employee, assuming a server, could be seen on her phone the whole time, not one person greeted us, no one said hey you can seat yourself or be right with you, nothing, we walked out and went somewhere else. I will never go back! I can not recommend to anyone. To me, not acknowledging us, or simple be right with you, is rude and sets the precedent for poor service.

Food was just ok. Interior was in need of cleaning, some paint and better lighting. Service was friendly, but few people in the restaurant. I doubt that I will make a return visit.
