My wife and I love everything about our stay here. Checking in was easy and plenty of parking. Hotel and rooms were very clean and the staff were all very nice. View of the beach was awesome and a short walk from the hotel. Also a plus was HOTO’s a restaurant and bar in the hotel and right on the beach. Definitely will be staying here again!
Loved our room, the staff and the breakfast. Room was clean and beds comfortable. Decor was nice. The breakfast offerings were varied and plentiful. The gentleman who was in charge of the breakfast area was extremely attentive and quick to help resolve an issue with the waffle battwe dispenser.
Booked a suite for July 20 & 21 for my daughter, my grandson and granddaughter for my grandsons birthday. They live in Midwest and never get to visit the beach I asked for a low floor when making the reservation in advance due to my very young granddaughter. I came to check in at 3:30 was told check in is at 4pm, ok I get it but saw others checking in. When asked if I had a low floor was told no, unless you want to move to a standard double room. I told them I could not do that because for one I paid for a suite and 2 have a boy with us. The room was on the 7th floor, on the end and was an adjoining room therefore had no kitchen counter space and had a very small refrigerator. Not at all what it looked like in the pictures of a suite. We had brought food and drinks since we had little ones but no where to put it. We left the room and when we came back all of our food that we had to leave out on the table since there was no room in kitchen was infested with ants. We lost all of our food. I am a AGM at a hotel and know you should try to honor request, and check in may be at 4pm, but you also try to accommodate your guest and ants are a big NO! Ants do happen but when reported something should be done. Was very disappointed in my stay. I go to this area at least once a month and will never recommend or stay at this hotel again.
We've stayed at Ocean Drive for 7 or 8 consecutive years, always during the week of July 15th, our anniversary. We've always been very satisfied. The desk, housekeeping and maintenance staff have always been very friendly, courteous and efficient. In an effort to prevent a recurrence of a lost reservation by another hotel, many years ago, I always call the hotel the night before we were scheduled to arrive. So, I called Ocean Drive about 11:30 the night before to confirm our reservation. I was told by a very nice lady working the late shift that we were, in fact, scheduled to arrive the next day and booked for a King, Oceanfront Suite. Emphasis on Suite. We live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, about 30 minutes from Ocean City. But, years ago, we decided we would spend over 9 hours driving time, traveling 476 miles and spending over $1, 500.00 to stay at Ocean Drive for 5 or six days. Especially since this was our 50th Anniversary, we were really looking forward to a nice, relaxing stay at the beach. When we arrived, we had the distinct misfortune to find a lady named Gretchen handling Check-ins at the Desk. The last thing you want to be confronted with, when beginning your vacation at a hotel, is an Attitude from the Desk person. Maybe the battery on her late model Broom had died the night before, and she had to walk to work. For whatever reason, she took it upon herself to award our reservation to someone who was evidently a walk-in. Though she told us she didn't know who changed or why our reservation had been changed, it was pretty obvious it was her doing. She said that there was one remaining suite matching our reservation. After receiving a key, I went to check it out. It turned out that it was located on the 6th floor on the outer wall of the South end of the hotel. Rooms on that wall overlook what is called the "Pavilion". The town's hot spot at Main Street and Ocean Drive where bands, music, arcade and crowd noises last until late at night. I returned to the desk and told the Gretchenator that we did not wish to stay in that room. So, she then informed us that the only thing available was a Handicap room. Emphasis on ROOM. This was definitely not a SUITE. It consisted of a Bedroom with a bath, sink and microwave. So, if the weather wasn't good for the beach, we could stack pillows and watch the TV located at the foot of the bed. Unfortunately for us, the weather wasn't very good for 3 of the 5 days, so we watched a lot of TV. On our last day, I managed to get an audience with the General Manager, a beautiful young lady named Lindsay. She was very polite, listened to my story and said "Thank you." I told her that, though I was sure the hotel would not go broke, we wouldn't be returning to Ocean Drive Resort in future years. Next year we will return to the Avista Hotel, a couple doors up the street. Ocean Drive will have $1, 500.00 less with which to fund Gretchen's salary next year and hopefully years after that. Whatever her salary, she is certainly grossly overpaid. If not for Gretchen's disgusting attitude and the total downgrade of our reservation, I would have given the hotel a "Very Good" rating.
It’s almost midnight. I’m laying on a bed so rock hard, my back is already telling me I’ll be out of action tomorrow. I even slept on the floor to gain some perspective. There’s not a lot of difference. The lovely folk at reception have given us a room without a balcony on the mezzanine level, right above the pool. There is clearly no closing time for pool hours, or if is there is, the person in charge of enforcing the rule clocked out very early. The kids playing in the pool sure sound like they’re having a great time which is fantastic and I’m sure they will break the world record for the longest ever game of Marco Polo. You’ve got this kids! A warm thank you to the “supervising” adults in the pool area allowing the noise to continue into the hours of tomorrow too. Excellent work. At the other end of the hotel, the intermittent fireworks are a real pleasure too. Like most store-bought crackers, these are not even slightly interesting for anybody to look at. A fine way to spend your hard-earned money indeed. I look forward to hearing them again in approximately 15 minutes time and 15 minutes after that. The room itself is quite stuffy, that is until this relic of an air conditioner blasts ridiculously freezing air out that I haven’t felt since… well… ever. The ferocity of the chill is matched only by the noise it also generates. As I continue to type, the room rapidly heats up once again as I wait for the magic of the AC to transport me back to feeling like I’m in a Arctic winter wonderland. I’m seriously considering sleeping in the bathtub to escape the outside noise, and both room heat and cold. So my beach weekend is off to a tremendous start. We have booked a two night stay but it looks as though I’ll barely be “sleeping” just the one. Maybe not even that. Ah yes, the AC cranks once again. I can practically see my own breath. And either I’m getting delusional from lack of sleep or I just saw a couple of penguins flying around the room. I’m also considering sleeping in my car. I’ll be away from the pool and the AC plus as a bonus it will give me prime viewing to see these funsters lighting up some more fireworks. I’m also curious about the name “Ocean Drive Beach and Golf Resort”. It contours up images of a magnificent seaside resort in the middle of a lush, green golf course, but no. Apparently if you stick a corner office in somewhere to take golf bookings, it enables you to call yourself a Golf Resort. Well played marketing. You got me! While the pool games continue without any signs of slowing down, I’ll finish up this review and submit. Although by the look of the two bars of internet reception, I’m not confident it will upload. By the way, I’m giving the Ocean Drive Beach and Golf Resort not one by two stars because the ageing decor reminds me of a simpler time. Thank you for reading.
First sight of the hotel we thought it was nice and clean. Got there unexpectedly early and asked for an early check in and received a response that check in was at 4PM. So went on the beach to kill time. At 2:45 the clouds opened up and downpoured so we went back in and asked if any rooms were open to check in and we were rudely told that check in was at 4PM. We explained that we are aware of that but we were soak and wet and asked if any one of the hundreds of rooms were cleaned so we can check in and were told again that check in was at 4PM. Came back after 4PM and the woman was gone for the day. The evening staff was friendly when we checked in and gave us our key and we go to our room and we find out it was a handicap room with slippery tile floor, no balcony and two towels. Also overlooked the pool and trees were blocking the view to the ocean. Not a good start to our weekend
Unfortunately I had to attend a wedding this time of year here and this is not the type of place for a nice relaxing getaway. It was party city for a ton of college students who played loud music all night. Maybe it’s better other times or if you like to party hard. I should have known when I drove into the parking lot and saw 3 police cars at the front door.
Very nice off-season place for a short getaway. All rooms are ocean front with private balcony. Great mattress and bed! Front desk staff was excellent and very friendly. Location is the best, with access to anything needed during the colder months.
The bathtub is caked with dirt, the silverware tray looks like it has months of crumbs. The exercise equipment, the little that is there, is rusted. There are 2 cups, 2 bowls and one plate. There are no bath towels but you are charged a resort fee. Ha! The hot tub was a tepid tub. All in all a disgusting and disappointing stay. Run far. Actually not too far. Stay at the next hotel The Avista! It’s great
Been staying here for years. Always enjoyed the location. I even posted a review in 2013 about how much we liked this hotel. We stayed this time for Bike Week. Had our truck and trailer parked across the street. Have done this in years past with no problems. The Sunday morning packing up to leave, the rear tire on our truck was stabbed like 17 times and a liquor bottle smashed into the back door of our bike trailer. Thank goodness other friends were there to help because when I went to the front desk to inform them of the incident, I was told to call the police and file a report. Great way to treat a frequent customer. Main Street is not the way it used to be. Could hang out on Main Street at the various bars at night, but don't feel safe doing so now with the type of crowd that seems to be moving in. Will be finding another place for our beach trips now.
