Original Painter's Homemade Ice Cream

Found a few years ago. Allergy knowledgeable. Experience wasn't as good this time. Took 3 tries before getting our ice cream. 1st time closed unexpectedly, 2nd time extremely long unmoving line. Not sure if it was customer or new /understaffed. 3rd time successful for the homemade ice cream, soft serve and shakes unavailable. Did have help wanted sign and mention of possibly mid management changes. Quality and dietary restrictions still good

Been going here for 20 years. Excellent homemade ice-cream! Portions are large. Just note Google shows they open at 12 noon, but it is actually 1pm. Kinda screwed up our day on this particular visit, but not going to take stars away. Its good ice-cream!

We got there right when it was scheduled to close but they stayed open for us! They were so kind and had delicious flavors. Highly recommend.

Ever since they sold the place it looks like nothing is fresh or homemade not the ice cream or the cones. Definitely going to calabash from now on.

Imagine waiting in line well over 30 minutes just to get to the front with 5 parties in front of you and BAM…they come outside with a CASH ONLY SIGN! What a heart break! That was our experience tonight. I can’t say much about the ice cream or service as we had to leave. The ATM machine was down and we didn’t have any cash.

We came to the ice cream place with our children. It was 8:12pm. My kids were debating between 3 ice cream flavors. I asked the red headed lady at the counter if we could get some samples to share and help us choose our flavors. She proceeds to tell me in an off putting tone, “umm no it’s too late for that”. Meanwhile there were 4 people sitting there behind the counter with nothing to do and no line behind us. We pause, and discuss what we should do, and she just stands there and stares at us. I find this customer service to be less than inviting to such a charming place. Then the serving window opens and a little girl says “why are you guys here and shoving the next guests ice cream almost off the ledge. I’m all for little friends helping out but this was a bit much. Again- the ice cream was delicious, but a bit rude of service.

The banana pudding flavor is ice cream perfected. Prices are decent especially considering that it is homemade.

This ice cream is spectacular! As of 8/26/26 they had sugar free butter pecan hard ice cream. The staff was knowledgeable too. They were able to tell me the sweetener that was used in it. That was extremely important due to food sensitivities. They are also very friendly!
