We got two dinners to go a meat and two veggies per dinner. The macaroni was overcooked and mostly dried. The rice was good but we wanted white gravy to which there was not enough to even taste it. The chicken was well cooked crispy and juicy on the inside. The fried fish was good. Just much disappointed I thought the price was a little pricey for a meat and 2 and not even a dinner roll come on to go plates. Not impressed with this visit.

Let me say 1st that THIS IS NOT A BUFFET. IT IS NOT AN ALL YOU CAN EAT. It is CAFETERIA STYLE. You buy the meat and veggies as a plate. Then, outside of that set plate price you pay per side. You get a meat, 2 veggies and a drink for 12.50. You get a tray and say this meat is what I want and these veggies. You pay at the end of the meal. The lady dishing up the food was friendly. Our server was also friendly. Our food was warm and seasoned ok. The fried chicken I really like. It was NOT dry at all. And the skin was crispy. The mashed potatoes were really, brown gravy was a good consistency but, is on the thinner side. The okra was delicious. It was fresh with cornmeal breading. Needed to be more crispy though. The fried potatoes are a NO. They didn't have any seasoning and were NOT cooked all the way through. The mixed veggies were good consistency cooking wise and melted butter on them. Hubby said the fish was ? (delicious). It is also a large size piece. Cornbread was SWEET and crumblely. The steakhouse roll was soft and warm. Reminds you of the ones you use to get at Ryan's. The sweet tea was good. Not to sweet and had crushed ice it. The total for 2 people to eat with tax was 27.00. Also there is a BBQ smoker outside and it smells delicious. They also have BBQ sandwiches as a plate you can buy by itself. Overall it was good.
Vegetarian options: They do have a diffrent variety of home cooked veggies. And they do sell just a veggie plate.

My wife and I went for the first time. We got fried fish and it was OK. The vegetables were great. My wife had green beans and I had fried okra and lima beans. We will go back and try there fried chicken.

Personally I think the food is over priced. $2.50 per side dish and the portion of said side is only a small bowls worth, if I had to compare it to something I would compare it to something I would use to put sauce in... other than that the food itself was decent but nothing to write home about.

We have eaten here several times and loved the food…we are about 45 minutes away and arrived at 7:35 and were told they would not cook anymore and we were only allowed to get the buffet. Their hours state they are open until 8, therefore twe should have been able to order off the menu.

The hostess/server was nice, really nice and provided great service, the food wasn't super impressive...but not super terrible. The steak was nooooot worth it. It was paper thin and very over cooked. And my potato was hard as a rock and not cooked enough. Our friends said the Mac and cheese and bread was good. One friend said the meat was dry and one person in our party said his stacker sandwich was amazing but the fries were soggy. So it seems like a hit or miss type of place. I would try again to see what a second experience would be like.

I started coming to this place a couple years ago. I really enjoyed it,there are not many places to get steak in Pickens so that's what drew me to the gatehouse. Recently it has not been that great to be honest. Last time I went I got the ribeye which I normally do,and when I paid she said the prices went up and my total was $40 for one steak! I didn't say anything bc prices went up everywhere. But the problem was the steak was small and cooked horrible. It's like a boiled steak not seared or anything. If your prices are going to be that high the quality needs to be up to par as well,would not pay that again for what I received!

People were super nice. However the food was not good as well as it was cold. My potato soup tasted like it came out of a can. Maybe their buffet is better. I’m not sure. But I know I’m not interested in going back. They cannot blame it on being busy because my wife and I got there as soon as they opened. I’ve honestly had better tasting food at McDonalds and I maybe eat McDonalds twice a year.
