Didn't like it for the following reasons:1) the eastern European dish Goulash (tender pieces of veal baked with some type of gravy) in this restaurant is served in form of pieces of sausage, didn't like the meal at all. If it wasn't a mom-and-pop shop, I would ask to bring something else instead. I didn't do it here due to respect only.2) they charged me $1 for a glass of tap water! When I raised concerns, they said that they will remove it from the bill and took my credit card to the back. Still, they didn't remove $1 water charge from the bill when I finally looked at it later...3) in the midst of Covid19 crisis, this place is too crowded! Literally. People are in each others hair. Owner came to the sitting area, she kept removing her face mask everytime she spoke. Later she approached our table and asked a ton of questions. By the way, she has too heavy of an accent and doesn't understand what other people are saying to her.4) owner caught me in the hallway and grabbed my arm while talking to me and didn't let go for quite some time despite my desperate attempts to get free.5) the menu said "please don't leave tips", so I obeyed and didn't leave it (i know this is how they do in Germany, so I thought they adapted the habit of not tipping). However, when I already went to the car and my friend was still inside using a bathroom, the owner walked up to him and asked why didn't we leave anything. He said "because the menu told us so". She said "it's all a joke" so he left a $20 (!) bill as a tip.6) bill for two people (food for two people + 2 beers that my friend ordered) costed us $63 without tips, it's too expensive for the mediocre food you are getting there.7) while I was getting the things straight with $1 for tap water, the owner was talking to my friend at the table. She made a vulgar joke.8) soup never came, dessert was a small piece of some pound cake (not a nice cake other reviewers were describing).I will not come back.

Who are these people leaving these good reviews? Total honesty, it’s almost worth telling people to go just because I can almost guarantee you’ll never get another experience like this again. I felt like we were in there for 5 years. Like wtf? Total twilight zone. I seriously don’t even know how to describe what we went thru. Unreal! You have to go to understand...if you dare...

I don't write reviews but this gem of South Carolina deserves it. If you like authentic german make this place a must. I personally loved the atmosphere and if I lived locally I would live and eat here. Best german potato salad ever! Amazing schnitzel!

Amazing food! Protip, if the owner brings out a mug, 2 beers and a plastic bag, just roll with it.

Gasthaus Zür Elli is a hidden gem here in little Prosperity SC. The staff is amazing and Ms. Wendy is always a great laugh. HIGHLY recommend and gives 5 stars

Gasthaus Zur Elli is meant to be experienced. Call a week ahead for reservation. This isn't some chain restaurant where they sit you down, take your order, give you your food and send you on your way. Plan to spend a little more time than usual here. Miss Wendy will make it worth your time

Wendy and the Gasthaus Zur Elli team is incredible! I was so excited that they were doing dining room seating by appointment. Our anniversary was yesterday, and Wendy made it so special. I really love coming there. You make us feel like family! The Smith's

The food here is second only to the amazing staff and owner! Hands down my favorite place to eat. This is NOT fast food, it is cooked to order and worth ever minute!!!!

Authentic German food lovingly prepared by a real German Oma. Be prepared to wait, but the wait is ohhhh so worth it. We drive in from Knoxville, TN to eat here about twice a year...it's that good.

Authentic German cook. List of different meat schnitzels. Pork was popular . German potato salad or creamed potatoes with green onion and gravy . Picked cabbage with every meal. Wine limited but was fine.

We have went here this weekend will be our 4th we go every weekend the menu changes every week ohh and Mrs. Wendy I love her she has authentic German. She welcome’s everyone with open arms. You can even request something you want for your reservation but you have to do it the week before so she can get prepared. I have taken Mrs. Wendy as my mom. We will continue to go every weekend we can. This is a must place to go for a good hearty meal in prosperity or even if you are wanting to try it out and you are Columbia you will not regret the meal or the drive great drive and you get to see some of the great heritage. Again come and try.
