Loved Kounter! Food awesome, staff awesome, some attention to timing and removing plates was minor. We wanted to go after dinner to Elsie's and asked about Elsie and the speakeasy. Told no problem - you should go. We didn't order dessert to have speakeasy cocktails. Go over - - look in and it's more than half empty on Saturday at 9pm. We were then told filled and an hour or maybe 45 minute wait. We just spent 2 hours at Kounter with great staff and dinner - all staff said just go over - NO ONE SAID get on a wait list!! And it was half full. Staff at Elsie was rude and condescending and quite frankly ruined a nice evening. Get your act together.

From previous dining at Kounter, we knew to order the mussels on mussels appetizer. Our waiter suggested Vinho Verde, a Portuguese white with a little effervescent snap. It went perfectly with the mussels. My wife ordered the alderwood salmon with mashed potators, snow peas, mushrooms and shallots. I ordered my favorite, lobster gnocchi, with an nicely split lobster tail perfectly grilled over tender gnocchi in a marvelous slightly spicy cheddar chili sauce. Wonderful! I learned that I should take some of the gnocchi home because otherwise I wouldn't have room for dessert. We split the whipped key lime with graham cracker crumble and a vanilla meringue. As usual our waiter was attentive and offered good advice, like the wine choice. Next time we'll switch to the incredible smoking tuna poke as our appetizer. I'll have the scallops with the uniquely constructed white cheddar grits crouton. Wife loves the blackened Carolina trout.

The food was absolutely next level. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be going back. Staff was pleasant and attentive and the place was clean and quaint. If you are looking for something a little out of the ordinary yet delicious and enjoyable, this is it.

Asha was our server, and she was attentive and pleasant. It was a birthday celebration, and when we arrived, there was a hand written note wishing my husband a happy birthday. We had two appetizers for the table: the oysters and the sherried crab dip. Outstanding! The cocktails were unique and simply marvelous. Their wine list is small and eclectic. We had, salmon, gnocchi, and chicken and biscuits. It was all presented beautifully, and tasted out I'd this world. The chef made rounds to check on the diners, and the manager was very visible, including stopping by our table. There is also an impactful story behind the building, which I won't recount here, but it only adds to the unique atmosphere. All in all, this may be my new favorite restaurant.

My wife and I chose Kounter for our 40th Wedding Anniversary due to it being listed as a "romantic" restaurant to dine in and many people commenting on the quality of the food. Despite me letting the restaurant know it was our 40th Wedding Anniversary, they did nothing at all to recognize the significance of it. We dined there on a Sunday. It was near empty the entire time we were there. I found it odd that, as such, the waitress we had was inattentive to periodically checking our table for any refills of drinks and taking inordinately long to bring us mixed drinks we ordered and then two cups of coffee for dessert we ordered. The coffee took so long that we both ate our desserts before she brought us coffee. The food was well prepared. We could have done without the "presentation plate" theatrics. A "presentation plate" experience may be what others desire. Not us. Overall it was an average experience devoid of ambience even near a romantic setting.

We always enjoy The Kounter and tonight was no different. I chose to celebrate my birthday with some friends. Our server Skylar was the greatest. New suggestions great attention we had a blast. Even took a few pictures after she quietly recognized the celebrity at the today. I obliged her and had a great moment with our mini photoshoot. The down side to the evening was moving over to Eloise next door. The hostess was extremely lack luster almost rude to everyone that walked in. No smile no personality. She drained the excitement for being out in my hometown. We almost left like a few others in front of us, but I really wanted to experience this spot. The saving grace was beyond the curtain and his name was Harrison. AMAZING!!!!! He welcomed us made everyone feel comfortable. Great drink suggestions even came up with something special for my picky sister that had her grinning ear to ear. We had been looking forward to this part of the night for over a week.

Love this place. Last minute reservation and the counter was the only available seating. Even at the counter the service was perfect, friendly and efficient. Our reservation was at 7:30. The noise level was high. The restaurant was full, and as a basically wide open space, the dining noise carried. I don't mind that type of environment, it actually reminds me of those lively restaurants I've been at while traveling in Italy. The food was fantastic. The Smokey Tuna Poke appetizer is delicious and the presentation is amazing. I had the Lobster Gnocchi which is delicious and highly recommended. My date enjoyed the Salmon and they were accommodating when asked to provide the sauce on the side in lieu of the default menu preparation. They had good NA options from Athletic Brewing (I don't drink) as well as a full bar. Make your reservation, you won't regret it!

Service was great. Food was great. Coctails were great. Love the history displayed and the walls of dedication to tell the story of the Friendship 9. Did NOT like the noise level. It was so loud the waiter was literally yelling at us to hear anything she said towards the end of our dinner, around 7pm. We sat in the booths against the wall it was just too loud and that would prevent me from returning for dinner. maybe sitting closer to the windows it is better. Brussels and Cauliflower very good. Chicken and biscuits very good. Did not like the corn ribs. that was really hard to heat.

Great menu with lots of options. Nice variety of beers & wine, with plenty of free parking all around. Definitely worth a visit for something different. Wait staff was attentive , informative, and friendly.

Lovely lovely meal. Food was just outstanding and we were fortunate to be able to have a pre dinner cocktail at the Kounter's sister cocktail lounge “Elsie's”. The only slight downside was the drinks were very slow at dinner.....perhaps the bartender was out because it took maybe 15-20 minutes to get our first drink. Otherwise just the kind of evening you want when you go out to dine!

We always enjoy dinner at Kounter. The food is delicious, the folks that work there are very friendly, and the prices for such high quality food cannot be beat.
