Saw a dog sitting at the bar. Didn't think that was the most sanitary. Didn't get food. Staff seemed to be fine with it (holding the dog). Smh

**was service dog required to sit on bartop where food is served? Are your employees required to hold the dog as well?

Place looks cool, and the staff were super nice, but the food was....ok. Not bad, but not good either. My husband and I started to check out BBQ places around us. So we tried this one two weekends ago. I got the ribs, baked beans, and butter corn. Husband got the pulled pork and brisket, Mac and cheese and ordered collard greens but they were out. He ordered a different side, but they accidently gave him baked beans instead of what he ordered. By the time we realized, we weren't impressed with the food and decided not to ask them to fix it. We would describe the food as Cafeteria BBQ, nothing tasted like it was really smoked or low and slow cooked. Mac and cheese was definitely cafeteria style, and the beans were kinda bland. Again, it wasn't horrible, but wasn't good either. Nothing really special about it.

Wow! This place rivals all the BBQ joints I've visited in Houston, TX. I lived there for 15 years and I think I've hit them all. This was my first visit at 521 BBQ & Grill and I wasn't disappointed. I'm usually cautious when trying a new place so I ordered safe and went with the BBQ pulled pork. It was very tender and juicy, not dry and flavorless like a lot of other BBQ places. Their baked beans and potato salad tasted fresh; homemade and not from a can. Best of all, they have a huge variety of dishes and selections for every palette. Our party tried a bit of everything... pork chops, nachos, hush puppies, calamari. No complaints from our table - everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Atmosphere is family casual and the waitstaff was very attentive. Will be dining there again and trying their ribs next time!

My waiter was great but the food has definitely changed. Been eating at 521 for years and really sad at the lack of flavor now. That great smoky flavor is all gone. I ordered a smoked pulled chicken plate and got boiled chicken ? the collard greens and Mac n cheese… ?. I just can’t bring myself to come back again, the price is not worth the food I expected.

Use to come here a lot before we moved. Went cause I was wanting their Mac and cheese… and was in the area, then got a to go side smaller than a pudding/jello cup for $4. It was barely larger than the sauce cup. Never seen anything like this before. Bags of fries and BBQ were proportionate for price and still good. Called in case it was a mistake… they said it wasn’t. Wouldn’t be a problem if they gave a warning before hand of the size. Remodel looks nice

To be completely honest, I dont know how this business is still afloat. I wish them the best however I will not be returning. I only wish I would have spent my $ at a fast food place instead.

Had to try the new boba tea on the menu since I’m pretty much a connoisseur. Was really great — if you’re a fan of boba tea and you’re in the area make sure to try it!

I’m heartbroken and disappointed how much 521 has changed. Considering this used to be our favorite restaurant, it’s unlikely we will ever return. As usual we ordered the ribs, but they no longer fall off the bone, instead they were fatty, chewy, and small compared to what they used to be. Clearly not slow cooked for hours. The pulled pork was just as heartbreaking, soggy and greasy. But the thing that made me the saddest was the tiny uniform hush puppies, clearly no longer homemade. I absolutely hate writing negative reviews, but the changes made to this beloved local spot have destroyed it. We were baffled when we pulled into an empty parking lot on a Saturday night, but now we understand.
