Those who rate this place less than 5-stars must lead an awfully miserable existence. The food is outstanding, the staff were great, and it was rather quick. I definitely recommend stopping in
Ate two breakfasts and a dinner while staying at the lodge. With a group of 6, everyone's meals were excellent every time. Also great service!
We stayed at the Spearfish Canyon Lodge and we were pleasantly surprised when we tried The Latchstring Restaurant across the street! We ate lunch here a couple times and dinner one night and the food was consistently good.The burgers are a must try! Restaurant is dog friendly, you get to sit on the puppy patio
Great old restaurant at the top of Spearfish Canyon bi-way. We grabbed a beer and bison burger special on the back patio. Wonderful view of the cliffs and forest.
The scenery was fantastic, and the staff was excellent.
The food (breakfast)was just okay, however. Not equal to the majesty of Spearfish Canyon.
Beautiful view. Wait staff was short-handed, but apologetic and friendly. Food was good.
Lots of food- can share a plate and still have a full belly! Great hash browns and omelets!

The view was so breathtaking and the food was absolutely delicious! We had Kass as our server and she was nothing less than AMAZING!
Location is outstanding, scenic and charming setting. Kassie serving us was amazing. She really took great care of us. Our meal was delicious. We were celebrating our 52nd anniversary.
I would recommend Latchstring 100x over if I could. We are in town unfortunately for a funeral. The Rosary and Vigil went late and we got back to the lodge at 7:50pm. I called over to the restaurant to see when they closed. They were supposed to close at 8. They stayed open for us to eat dinner so we could go to bed full. Our server Kass, was excellent. She took care of us in our time of need. She even wrote us a note on our to-go box. Truly outstanding service- above and beyond.
10/10 outstanding food, service & wait staff! Try the cheesecake, ITS AMAZING!
Atmosphere is inviting for the entire family, yet still romantic. Friendly staff that treat you as family rather than a patron. Food is off the hook. A must visit for anyone in the area. Ron and Maureen S.
