The fact this place isn't slammed open to close is a crime. By the best Pho in state, and the cold tea tastes like summer time. Great view, great service, great food, if you haven't gone you should. If you are looking for something new try it!

I found out about this restaurant from The Cup Happiness boba shop located in Downtown Spearfish and saw a flyer about it. I believe they both operate by the same owner. Ever since this Vietnamese restaurant first opened up, the menu was very limited at the time. However, as time gradually passed by, they began adding more food and drink items to the menu. I enjoyed eating here because the ingredients they use are authentic. My favorites are the Vietnamese Iced Coffee and the stir fried dish specifically with white rice and the fried egg. The restaurant location in Spearfish is beautifully set in the Village near the other fancy places and conveniently located right off exit 10 on I-90. If you are looking for something authentic and fancy, I would highly recommend coming here for hangouts, family gatherings, or even a date with your significant other. It is also out of the way if you are coming from the Rapid City area as the drive is an hour away, but the food is absolutely phenomenal compared to the local Vietnamese restaurants back in Downtown Rapid City.

Short and simple menu, very good food. Prices are fair; not super cheap but nothing is anymore!Biggest complaint is that the owner drives a hideously ugly vehicle and insists on parking or directly in front of the door in the way of the customers. Go park that abomination in the back.

LOVED our first experience at Gao! So thankful to have a new, unique, fresh cuisine added to Spearfish. The building is beautiful, the staff was sweet, and the food was so fresh and filled with flavor! We ordered the largest Pho dish, Chicken Wings with Fish Sauce, Sweet and Sour Ribs, Egg Rolls and a fresh Coconut to drink. It was fun to share all the dishes, we actually had food leftover because there was a lot for just two adults and two kiddos. The kids are picky eaters and loved it! Every table inside was full so it was a busy, fun atmosphere. The waitress was very attentive and quick, one of the kids dropped a spoon and she noticed from across the room and rushed to replace it right away. They took our order quickly and the food came out quickly as well. After drinking the fresh coconut the waitress opened it up so we could try the coconut “meat”, that was a highlight for the kiddos. We are excited to go back and try the Boba and also the outdoor seating overlooking the creek. Such a fun, busy spot on the weekend with the Farmhouse and Sawyer Pizza next door. We will absolutely be back soon!!

Overall underwhelming.Due to the mixed reviews I have not tried the pho yet. Instead we had the egg rolls as an appetizer and they were delicious! Crispy and warm with a lovely salty dipping sauce. I would order these again!However, we had the pork ribs for our main course and it was not worth the $16... There was hardly any meat on the bone. The little meat that was there was very dry. The veggies it came with were undercooked (raw onion & red pepper). The rice was fine and the sauce was flavorful, but as a whole dish - kinda disappointing.I'm open to try a few more things on the menu, but I wish the first impression was better!
