Heck’s catered my cousins wedding this weekend, and all I can say is WOW! Not only were they kind, prompt and professional, but the food was absolutely delicious. Super fresh and tasted home made. The young man that gave the announcement for what we were eating at the wedding was very knowledgeable about the food and ingredients which was great for anyone with allergies! 10/10 recommend Heck’s for any event you need of delicious food at! Thank you guys!!

No beverages on site and the brisket is only available as a shredded option. Where can a guy find good, sliced brisket, in South Dakota?

We had Jody and Heck's BBQ cater a large corporate event. Jody was very easy to work with and took the time to walk me through different options and ideas. His years of experience show through when it comes to planning large outdoor events with a variety of factors to consider. Beyond that - the food was excellent. Rave reviews from everyone who attended. The whole hog was quite the sight and the talk of the party. Highly recommend working with Jody and Heck's BBQ. (Special shout-out to the coleslaw which won over all our non-coleslaw lovers!)

A seasonal operation that is a perennial favorite of folks in the southeastern corner of the state. Located just west of the University of South Dakota campus at 24 East Cherry Street (google has the wrong address), this one is really different. It has a retail element, operating from a store front with a single picnic table outside for seating. But there is also a food truck outside the door, which anchors a catering business that goes beyond wedding and business functions to servicing sports events on campus. It should be emphasized that this is also a seasonal operation, with limited hours and a limited menu (Thursdays from 4 to 7 PM as we finish up September). The smoker works on a combination of corn cobs and hickory. We laid out $74 for a rack of ribs (14 bones), a half pound of chopped brisket, and double rations of baked beans, cheesy potatoes, and coleslaw. Even with the current rate of inflation, this struck us as pricey, especially because the value was uneven. Both meats were well prepared, in the sense of being moist and tender, but both lacked smoke. The brisket was noticeably salty, enough for us to advise those on a salt restricted diet to tread cautiously here. Happily, the rib meat had terrific taste in its own right; they serve it sauced, so if you want to have it dry, specify this when your order. As for the sides, the potatoes and baked beans were unremarkable, but the coleslaw is superb, and we strongly recommend that you try it with the ribs.

Just tried Heck’s BBQ for the first time tonight and the brisket/rib meal is AMAZING! Tender, delicious, and full of flavor the only thing that could make this any better would be a dessert. 10/10 would recommend and will be coming back!
