Classic place for breakfast

The food was good, the service was ok. Once we got our food, our server never came back until she brought us our bill before we were done eating!

Disappointing and Repeatedly Unwelcoming Experience

I’m writing this review on behalf of myself, my friends, and family members who have all had similar negative experiences at Grainfields in Saskatoon. While the food and service from servers have exceeded expectations, the experience at the front of house continues to be deeply uncomfortable.

There is an older woman who works as the hostess/cashier, and unfortunately, her attitude is consistently unwelcoming. From the moment you walk in, there's no smile, no eye contact, and no greeting. Her body language is tense, her tone is abrupt, and she’s openly complained — loudly — in front of customers and staff alike. On my most recent visit, she grumbled about the state of the tables and expressed that she did not know where to seat me, all while avoiding eye contact and offering no sense of hospitality. The tables were not in dissaray, people had JUST left. Staff was working fast to clean tables. There was no business. No visible reason for her to dramatize her situation. This wasn’t a one-off; it has happened several times, and I’ve heard the same feedback from multiple people.

When you’re spending $20–$30 a person, plus tip, it’s fair to expect a welcoming environment. Walking into a restaurant should feel like walking into someone’s home — friendly, warm, and inviting. Instead, this particular staff member makes the atmosphere uncomfortable and tense.

I sincerely hope management addresses this issue (immediately) because experiences like this are driving regular customers away. If this continues unchecked, I wouldn’t be surprised to see business suffer as a result. A small change in attitude could make a huge difference. I already have one foot out the door.

Hard to beat this classic breakfast spot

Picked up breakfast to go last week. Breakfast for two with no add ons and was $42. But the quality of food was about $15. Used to go a lot but not anymore. If you’re going up the prices then up the quality! Not the other way around.

Food is excellent.
Service is quick.

Can be loud. It's a family restaurant. Especially on a Sunday morning / afternoon.

Took Mom out for Mother’s day supper. Grainfields, having been around for so many years, impressed me with presentation, environment/ambiance (quiet and cozy) and price. Compliments to the great tasting food and great service!! We were amazed. My mom’s pork cutlets had mushroom chunks (not canned) she enjoyed it. The gravy on my Salisbury steak tasted homemade, I never eat gravy cause it tastes fake!! I’m just amazed at how well the restaurant has held up considering the years it’s been open. Restaurants have a tendency to go down hill after that many years- NOT Grainfields!!

I met a friend for lunch, and the service was attentive. It's a very busy place for lunch!
I had dry ribs and Cesar salad. Tasted good but the portion was really small for the price.
