We almost did not eat at this restaurant because of the negative reviews on Facebook, but I’m so happy we did anyway! The food was SO GOOD! The margaritas were great and they were 2 for 1. Our server was extremely attentive and helpful! We will most definitely be back! Best Mexican food in Ashland City. We
The restaurant is really just your average Mexican place - the taco salad shell was the best - chicken was very good with lot of it. The Burritos were pretty good - they cover it with cheese sauce and salsa but it does not come out too appetizing - it would better to have it on the side and add it yourself - actually the guacamole was better than most places - real chunks of avocado and tomatoes. We haven't tried the other Mexican place in Ashland City but I would come back to El Rey
Met here for a business lunch. Four of us all ordered different meals and all were delicious! Chicken taco salad was the best ever! Highly recommend this place. Fast friendly service as well.
Delicious food. The best quesadilla I have ever had. Wonderful customer service. Would highly recomend.
I like stopping in here for a plate of tasty and filling food. I really like the enchiladas. Grab a beer while you're there. I usually go on week days and can get some work done there because it's quiet. The owners and staff are very nice and attentive too.
The Fajitas are our favorite, and their salsa and chips are always good. We usually get either the Guacamole or the Cheese Dip. Both are always delicious! Service is friendly and fast! Definitely recommend!!
Stopped through Ashland City while traveling, and we really only like to eat at Mexican restaurants. This restaurant was very quirky and interesting—almost everything is made of leather (furniture, decor, etc.). We came in shortly before close, and they were very gracious and courteous! All of the food seemed handmade by batch, very fresh, and amazingly delicious! Definitely recommend!!!
The last time I visited here the food was absolutely disgusting. I'm talking so gross that the majority of my party didn't even eat. One of my friends ordered a chicken dish and it came out bloody in the middle, my "ice" water was warm, for some reason, and had stuff floating in it. This used to be a great place to eat when it first opened but now you couldn't pay me to eat there!
El Rey is a little hard to find, on the corner with only a small faded sign. We past this twice last week and we thought it was closed. Our first impression on entering was quaint. The decor gives a nice clean vibe that continues to the restrooms. Speaking of restrooms, the soap in the ladies room spells wonderful. We ordered queso and guacamole dips. We were suprised by both. The guacamole is almost as good as the recipe my husband uses at home. I am not a fan of cilantro and most restaurant guacamole is overpowered by it. El Rey's is not and the flavor is superb. The queso was spicy, nothing like other restaurants. My husband ordered the #8 on the regular menu. Enchilada and tamale. I ordered lunch #4, enchilada and Taco. Everything about our meal was tasty. The only drawback was the enchilada tortillas were a little crispy on the ends. The rice was fluffy and the beans full of flavor. We will definitely make this our Mexican favorite in Ashland City.
Ended up eating here after making plans to eat at a place by the river and finding out once we got there that they were closed for the holidays. El Rey was one of the few places we noticed open on the way in and we were hungry so we stopped in to eat. After standing at the door for a few minutes without anyone acknowledging us we were told to sit where we wanted. Our waiter was not very personable and almost rude. We got our chips(which were stale) and our salsa(which tasted like nothing but tomato sauce) and ordered our entrees. While waiting on the food I went to the bathroom which ended up being disgusting and the whole area around it was very rundown. Tiles broken, holes in walls and just dirty. Also the area were the chips and salsa was kept I noticed the chips in a warmer drawer, which was wide open,(explains the staleness) and the salsa in a 5 gallon bucket just sitting on a counter with no lid. Not really sure how they pass their health inspections. I was very hesitate to even eat the food but I did. I ordered the Miguel special which was steak, chicken, shrimp and carnitas cooked together and served with rice and beans. Honestly it was a very good dish with the carnitas being some of the best I ever had which is why I didn't give them 1 star. My wife had the "Hawaiian" burrito which was supposed to come with pineapple slices on top, but she was informed after they brought her the burrito that they were out of pineapple, the funny part is they have several "Hawaiian" dishes on the menu but failed to mention they were out. Probably had a lot to do with our waiter. My wife did enjoy the burrito she had anyways. Seems like they might have some good cooks here but need a remodeling in the worse way and they may include the staff.

Y'all know what El Rey means? The King. I really shouldn't have to say anything else. El Rey is the OG Mexican restaurant of Ashland City. It got smashed by a frickin' runaway truck and still refused to quit. The food is as excellent as it has always been. Vastly superior to Don Pancho (sorry Don Pancho). Sure, the service isn't the best. But if that prevents you from eating there, you probably don't deserve to eat there anyway. Long live the King.
This was exactly what I needed. I had the chicken flautas and my friend had the giant burrito. Both were great and the rice with the flautas was some of the best I have ever had. The staff were friendly and I would go back (: The bathrooms were a little dingey but apart from that, a solid Mexican dining experience
We had lunch at this restaurant about 11:00am. It was nicely decorated and my first impression was very good. The waiter came over and asked us what we would like to drink and brought the drinks over right away. Another waiter took our order and the food was brought out in a timely fashion and looked good. It not only looked good, it was delicioius. There weren't many people at the restaurant at the time we went so not sure how it would be with lots of guests, but the food was good.
I have eaten here for years and sadly it's not as good as it used to be. The food is average, and lacking the flavor I feel it once had.
Me and my wife came here for dinner a few times and the food has always been good. For some reason this place has just kept going downhill year after year. I'd rather go to Don Poncho or the place in Pleasant View. The staff just kind of stands around. We have waited 5-10 minutes after walking in just to see someone and another 5 minutes just to get some water. That is when it is really slow inside. Overall the food is 4/5 (just because I've had better) and the service is about a .5/5. If you are used to the service and have patience then this place isn't so bad. Otherwise just go somewhere else.
