I have passed by this place many many times and never stopped. I was passing by and noticed them open so I decided today would be the day. I try different barbecue places all over West Tennessee as I do a lot of traveling as I work.
I ordered the small rib plate which comes with three ribs. I chose macaroni and cheese and coleslaw as my side items.... water to drink. $17.01 after charging 4% card fee
A little steep for that in my opinion but OK...
The best item on my plate was the coleslaw... it was well seasoned and crunchy and cold and quite tasty. The macaroni and cheese was basically mush... almost as if it was a day or two old and they just keep reheating it until it's all gone? The ribs were definitely tender but they were almost as mushy as the macaroni and cheese. I literally pulled the bone off of a mushy pile of meat....it was pretty much pot roast...No discernible smoke flavor whatsoever to them... I dipped them in some of the mild and hot sauce that was on the table to give it some semblance BBQ flavor...the sauces were quite tasty and the hot definitely had a kick to it...it was pretty much crock pot pork with BBQ sauce on it...
I wish I could say I had a great dining experience here but the food was just not very good? I know everybody has an off day but this was... not good...
I will stop by again and maybe try something different and if I have a better experience I will edit this review.... I got the ribs because everyone talked so highly of them.... I just didn't have the same experience... what a shame....

Great experience! I enjoyed my regular bbq pork sandwich. Was asked if I wanted slaw (of course!) and sauce (of course!). What type of sauce: spicy! Was very good. Lots of meat and appropriate slaw. Meat, slaw, and sauce were all delicious. Price was very fair. I did not have to wait long. I got mine to go and it filled me up. Gentlemen at the counter seemed to enjoy his job. He may have owned the store. He sure looked like a Poppy. Definitely worth the stop. I will be back!

Had Poppy’s for the first time today, first I had the bologna sandwich, loaded potato salad and banana pudding. Food was PHENOMENAL, staff is very friendly. Food was so good I stopped back by on my way out of town for another sandwich. Looking forward to the next time!

First time eating here after the good reviews we have heard. Best decision! It was amazing! We ordered 2 racks of ribs and they were PERFECT! Falling off the bone, melt in your mouth and lip smacking delicious!? I just can't express how FANTATSTIC our experience as well as the food was! Thanks guys we will definitely be back!!

We highly recommend Poppy’s Barbecue. We had a brisket special order for a Celebration of Life and everyone absolutely loved it. The brisket was moist, tender and had the perfect smoky flavor. Their sides and sauces are all homemade and delicious. Needless to say I highly recommend Poppy’s.
This place is wonderful the service is amazing they're very friendly in this place and serve the food out pretty quick they have a decent choice of food items to pick from and they even have truck parking or RV parking so you have room to get some grub... I recommend this place and I have put it on my to go places the next time I come through this area
