Not long after moving to beautiful NE TN, a neighbor recommended we try Clinchfield Sub Station in Erwin. I was quite surprised to discover they are closed on weekends. Growing up in the restaurant industry, I was mystified how any food establishment could survive without the weekend crowds. Well, when we finally had a weekday open, we decided to pop in and find out.
Turns out, the recipe for Clinchfield’s wild success is quite simply, they put their money where your mouth is…in the form of the freshest ingredients and hefty portions for a reasonable price! And do not get me started on their melt-in-your-mouth homemade bread - the framework for their deli-licious creations!
This family owned and operated one-off has thrived by word of mouth recommendations from loyal customers with WJHL News Channel 11’s viewers voting Clinchfield Sub Station the Tri-Cities Best Deli in 2023.

One of the best little deli/restaurants in Erwin, TN. The staff are super nice and friendly, and the food is stellar! All of the food is freshly made to order. I definitely recommend their burgers. There are many different combinations of salads, subs, and burgers to choose from on the menu. My SO and I have made it one of our top 5 places to eat in Erwin.

Food is good but the hours often seem erratic and not conforming to what's printed on the door. I have been there more times when they where supposed to be open, sometimes even with the "OPEN" sign on, but they were closed. If you get there and they are open, the food is pretty good!

Working with TDOT after the recent flooding, I had spent a good amount of time in the Erwin area and I’m always looking for a good, local diner for some grub. The Erwin Fire Chief recommended this place, and the recommendation was SPOT on!! Great food, great people, and fantastic overall experience! I will definitely eat here again, SOON!! 🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟
FOOD: I was torn between a burger 🍔 (my FAV) and the highly recommended Philly Cheese-Steak, but the gal behind the counter said burger, so I obliged! 😎 It was great, and cooked to perfection. 😋😋 Seemed to be a non-frozen patty, hand patted and thick, maybe the perfect burger size. Tomatoes were super fresh and tasted of the Grainger Co. variety and I requested “burnt” bacon and they provided crispy bacon 🥓(which is so hard to get for some reason 🤷🏻♂️.) Bun seemed to be a potato bun, and SUPER fresh. 🥯Fries were similar to “Checkers” fries with a bit of seasoning that was not my favorite, but did not detract from anything. 🍟 Everything was cooked to perfection and served hot and timely with generous proportions. They had fountain drinks (Coke products) 🥤as well as bottled drinks.
ATMOSPHERE: It’s a small diner with seating for around 15 people. A very clean restaurant with a SUPER friendly staff. (As I was coming in, a young couple was leaving and I mentioned it was my first time there, they said “It’s great food!” I agree 100%.)
If you’re in the Erwin area and looking for something other than Pal’s, this is a GREAT option! I’ll update with the Philly very soon!! 😉

This is a unique sandwich shop, a small business in a small town that serves big bites packed with flavor. I used to love the bread—it still smells amazing—but I can’t eat it anymore. Fortunately, the staff offers a breadless option, allowing me to enjoy any sandwich style, which I truly appreciate.
My kids and I stop by occasionally, and I wish I remembered to visit more often, especially now that they offer breakfast.

Incredible experience! I ordered the Reuben, and my wife opted for the Cheeseburger sub. Let me tell you, both sandwiches were outstanding!
The Reuben was perfectly crafted, with tender corned beef, complemented by tangy sauerkraut and a generous amount of creamy dressing. The rolls are amazing!
My wife’s Cheeseburger sub was equally impressive. Piled high with quality meat with all the classic toppings—crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and melted cheese. Nestled in a fresh baked, soft sub roll.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a meal. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed.

A hidden gem / hole in the wall in Erwin that is absolutely incredible. The reviews don't lie, you don't want to miss this one. I had the Rueben Sub with mozzarella sticks. Both were great. The meat, cheese, and sauce on the sandwich were great and the sub bread was super soft. The mozzarella sticks were stretchy and delicious and not too greasy. The service is amazing. The people working here are so nice and the food came out really fast even though they didn't start cooking anything until after I ordered it. I will be coming back very soon.
