I had such an outstanding experience at Las Tortugas that I had to share a full review. From the moment I walked in, the warm greeting and colorful, inviting atmosphere made me feel instantly comfortable. The staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care that every guest was having a great time. They checked in often enough to be helpful without ever making me feel rushed.
The highlight, without question, was the tacos. They were absolutely phenomenal—fresh, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor in every bite. You can tell the ingredients are high quality and prepared with real pride. The tortillas had that warm, soft, homemade feel, and each taco had a great balance of textures and toppings. The chips and salsa were just as impressive, with crispy chips and a salsa that tasted bright, fresh, and made in-house.
I also ordered a cold beer, and it paired perfectly with the meal. It was refreshing, crisp, and served at just the right temperature—simple, but exactly what I wanted to enjoy with great tacos. Everything about Las Tortugas feels thoughtful, clean, and well-run.
This is the kind of restaurant you immediately want to return to, whether for a quick meal or a relaxed night out. Highly recommended to anyone who loves truly great tacos!

My tacos al pastor were absolutely fire!
Augua frescas were fire!
It's nice to have this level of authenticity in somewhere like Germantown.
Tacos shouldn't be 5+/taco (more a philosophy than reality) but the location and their service drive that cost up for good reason.
This is the type of place that I'd fuss about the ticket, but eat there anyways.

The gulf shrimp tortilla was very good, but we paid $60 for 1 tortuga, 3 tacos, and an agua Fresca. Seems a bit pricey for deli food even if the ingredients are fresh.

Food was ok, not very good. It was very expensive compared to what it came. The drink was so much sweet that we couldn’t drink.

I mean, I have nothing to add to any of the other countless reviews, but I can say that I will dream about this place until next summer when we drive through town. We are from Texas, we are used to REALLY GOOD Mexican food all over the place and Las Tortugas was SO GOOD.

Best mexican deli around and they have two locations. This one on germantown blvd is my favorite because compared to traffic near the other option.

We decided to check this place out for dinner on Cinco de Mayo. A small group of us went in the evening, expecting some sort of celebration, but there wasn’t any party or event happening—just a few people casually dining in.
This is a self-service, deli-style Mexican spot that has apparently been featured on a TV show and received some media attention, so it’s somewhat well-known. The person taking orders at the counter—possibly the owner or manager—was friendly and chatted with us a bit. He mentioned that one of his parents is from Mexico, and they aim to keep some of the recipes pretty authentic.
We started with house-made baked chips and guacamole. The chips were great, and the guac was fresh and flavorful, although the portion size felt a bit small. They also served salsa on the side, which surprisingly had pomegranate seeds—an unexpected twist, but it worked well.
For the main course, each of us ordered different items. I went with the al pastor tacos. They were decent, but I’ve definitely had better tacos, even around Memphis. That said, all the ingredients were fresh—especially the avocado and salsa, which stood out.
On a fellow diner’s recommendation, I also tried the mango juice. It was on the pricier side, probably made from real mango rather than concentrate, but it was a bit too sweet for my taste—perhaps they added sugar.
Overall, I’d say it’s an average spot. The vibe is chill and laid-back, and everything tasted fresh, but flavor-wise, it was average.
