I was looking forward to trying out Backyard BBQ in Jackson, TN, but my experience fell far short of expectations. Upon arrival, I waited a frustrating 19 minutes at the microphone just to hear that they were out of chicken wings, chicken tenders, and, worst of all, their famous potatoes.
The lack of basic menu items was baffling, especially for a BBQ joint. The server’s indifferent attitude only added to the disappointment; I would have appreciated some proactive communication about the menu before waiting so long.
Horrible customer service combined with a lack of food options made for an extremely underwhelming visit. I won’t be returning anytime soon. If you're looking for a BBQ experience in Jackson, I suggest you look elsewhere.

We eat here a lot and most of the time the food is good. We have had a few times where the food wasn't the best but not enough to keep us from coming back. We like this place because they have a good variety of sandwiches, meals, desserts and more. And the prices are not that bad. Also it's not a place where everything is deep fried. The biggest issue with this place is that it could really use some updating. It looks very run down inside. Some new tablecloths. Paint, and more would make it look better. But even with it needing updated we will still keep coming here and telling others about Back yard barbecue. You get a lot of food for the price and most all of the employees are friendly and willing to explain things if you have a question. Would definitely recommend trying here. I think you will like it.
Been eating these loaded potatoes since I was a kid. I ate there the other day and I have to say my memory was unlocked. Still delicious, you can't get this anywhere else.

I used my cash app at drive through at around 6pm 9/14/24, at about 8pm my card got a $32 charge I didn’t make. Quite a coincidence!
Sides can absolutely make or break a BBQ restaurant for me. The potato salad here is really good, and it tastes like it’s made in-house, which is a big plus for me. The green beans are good too. The BBQ itself is pretty dang good as well. I particularly enjoyed the brisket. It was a lot more moist than what I’m used to seeing. I also tried the bologna, and ohhhh my. It was the star of our meal. But to sum up, the food here is not unique, but it is classic, well-executed, solidly good, and affordable. Also, the place is clean, the staff is friendly, and the food came out quickly. I love finding these kinds of “well-oiled machine” operations that just do good food quick. We will return!
It's a special place for us as it was the first restaurant we ate at as a family shortly after we were married. The restaurant was clean. The staff were friendly and answered my questions patiently with interest.
