In a sea of Mexican restaurants in the greater Memphis area, Portales stands out for a number of reasons. Everything tastes more fresh than competitors, with generous portions that are well seasoned (not just loads of salt and pepper but actually seasoned) and cooked perfectly with the fajitas being some of the best I've had in the surrounding area. The margaritas are unique, not just regurgitated from pre-made mixes, and are really something special. The staff is friendly and attentive, plus there's plenty of seating for groups. Go taste the difference and show Portales some love.
Excellent salsa. Ordered the chicken fajita chimichanga which was very good. Overall an excellent Mexican restaurant.

Love this place. The food is absolutely some of the best Mexican food at a restaurant I have ever had. From the fresh guacamole to the birria tacos, or the salsas to the margaritas. Delicious!

Food was excellent...the birria tacos melted in my mouth like they said they would!!! Our server Taylor was awesome too! Great experience all around. Our 1st time eating at Portales but it definitely won't be our last! ♥️

Best food in town! Birria tacos amazing. You will never leave feeling that you didn't get enough to eat. Service was amazing as well. Been going to this location for the last 6 months and NEVER had a bad meal.

The food, atmosphere, and the service is awesome. If you love Mexican definitely give them a try. Order the burrito hawaino, you won't be disappointed.

My wife has been trying to get me here after she and a friend tried it. I finally tried it tonight. Hands down, it's the best authentic Mexican place. Any of the leftovers she brought home before were an incredible blend of flavors. Today, I had the street tacos, one chicken and one chorizo. The meat was marinated and spiced just right and grilled to perfection. The salsa was just the right amount of spice and chunkiness. Even the rice and beans were fresh and delicious. It was a flavor explosion!

I love this place we always order the birria tacos as is hard to pick other item of the menu we are so in love with them, we also enjoy the margaritas specially the prickly pear is amazing!

I’ve been here twice a long time ago. I found another Mexican restaurant I like more, but I was in the area and wanted to check out the menu again. They’ve gone up on all of their prices considerably! $18 for birria tacos?! Are you kidding me. You can’t find anything less than $15 for the most part.
Portales, you’re not a fancy restaurant, and I do not know how people are paying these insane prices. I can go to Oakland and get better tacos for $8.99. But having to pay $20 for some enchiladas anywhere is insane

Service is fantastic. Food is pretty good considering the price and venue. Atmosphere can be loud due to concrete type flooring. Overall, it's good and we go often when friends or family are in from out of town and prefer this type food.

The service was good but the food was just fair.
My hard taco, rice, and refried beans were not tasty. Beans and rice are stiff and not good. The hard taco was overly crispy and good.
The Topshelf with salt was overly salty and made with house tequila. It was not good.
