Carmen's taqueria

We came here back in September for my birthday and everything was five star across the board. We came tonight for Valentine’s Day and the atmosphere was completely different. We ordered the polo asada and carne asada fajitas to share and the only thing that came out hot were the tortillas. The fajitas were not sizzling and were only moderately warm. The meats were sliced so thin that it was hard to differentiate between the chicken, beef and the vegetables. I gave the food two stars instead of one star because the flavor was great but the temperature wasn’t. As to the condiment tray, the beans and rice were room temperature, the avocado looked old, and there was only about a teaspoon of sour cream. The service left much to be desired. We requested more chips from our waiter because we ordered one of the dips. A couple of minutes later our waiter walked by with a bowl of chips for another table and we had to request chips from a different server. We also had to ask a different server for extra sour cream because our server had disappeared. I am not sure if something had happened this weekend but only one employee smiled once the entire time we were there. I am hopeful this was a one off. We will give it another try and I truly hope this was just an off night.

My favorite place to come to eat!! The food always comes out quickly, margaritas are great, and servers are all very attentive.

We’ve been coming here for a long time, probably 5 or 6 years or so. My fiancé’s close friend that passed away taught us how to make tamales, and Carmen’s comes closest to his family recipe 🤍 we come here a lot when we need a familiar place to bring us back home. The food is always fresh, fast, and delicious. We find ourselves always coming back, nothing top’s Carmen’s!!!!

Been to Carmen’s several times and this place, well it’s just not it. Not sure why it’s busy. Food is over priced and the restaurant is cramped and old/outdated.

Went to get dinner tonight 2 meals;

Chicken fajita burrito $16. It was fine nothing special that’s for sure.

Ground beef nachos $16. Maybe 10 chips on the plate and the ground beef wasn’t seasoned with Mexican/taco seasoning. It was like eating a ground up hamburger on top of a few chips. Absolutely not worth $16.

The real kicker… we ordered 2 soda waters. (Bubbly water) most places treat this like tap water because basically that’s what it is just with carbonation.

When we got our check they charged us $8 for two soda waters.
When we asked them to take it off they refused and said that’s what it costs.
If they were bottled then maybe it would have made sense but $8 for water is unbelievable. Waitress kept apologizing but wouldn’t do anything about it. She would’ve gotten a tip if they would have taken the water charge off..

Either way we won’t be back.

Not to mention they had children working in there maybe the city should check up on that.

My family and I have been long time customers of this restaurant. We love the food, but the service and customer experience keeps getting worse over the last few months. I just found out about a student discount they offer which I’ve been a student at MTSU for a year and a half. They refused to give me a discount because I am an online student and only have an online ID. Truly disheartens experience and will not be returning especially after the horrible service we’ve received the last few visits. Unfortunate since we love the food.

On recent visit to Carmen's was very disappointed mainly because my waiter Carlos R was horrible. From start did not seem to want to wait on me. Was very brusque, said tomatillo sauce would be to spicy for me. Took 15 minutes and had to ask twice to get my credit card back. The food was fine the best thing was the live music. Will not be going back.

the waiter guy sucks !

the male mexican guy, Waiter just ignored me and my son for a long period of time. we just ate the chips and salsa and drank lemonade. my son had to get up twice to ask for napkins and more chips (as we were waiting for the waiter).

Since he didn't care about us at all, we got up, I talked to the manager, and I went to the cash register and only paid for the chips, salsa and two lemonade drinks.

we did not eat the taco salad nor did we eat the deluxe shrimp burrito.

After the way he totally disappeared and ignored us, I lost my appetite And I totally lost my excitement about eating there.

zero customer service and zero customer appreciation.

this was my first time there (and my last time there).

No thanks.

If they don't want me and my money, there's a lot of other (nice and kind) restaurants that do serve us well.

I will file a complaint with the FTC about being forced to pay a tip. They should not do that because the tip is optional , when there are 6 adults you have to had the tip, but two people are ridiculous, waitress Lupe refused to remove the tip So I will put my complaint where I have to put it.

A gem in a haystack with great drinks! Would definitely go back!

Delicious food. Loved the corn tortillas and the cactus! Oooh and the margaritas! Gotta go at happy hour.

The food is excellent, service was spot on. I totally enjoyed 1st visit, & will be going back !
I'd never had cactus - delicious w/ grilled chicken. They make their own tortillas, which are lighter, easier to eat, w/ dentures ... lol
Salsa ROCKS !
As do papaya margaritas.
Priced reasonably - party of 3, our tab, incl pitcher of 'ritas, was $53, pre-tip. Well worth a visit, or 2. ~mlwg
